For me its Olivia, Erin, and Jim Bob. While Olivia was always pretty I got annoyed with her repeated whining and seemingly dissatisfaction with her life. Especially when she seemed to expect everyone else in the family to remain exactly the same. Of course part of my opinion is based on her constant condemnation of military service and insistence that "there isn't going to be another war". Which seems incredibly naïve at present but I guess was a more understandable sentiment back then. And at least her beliefs were influenced heavily on her experience of John leaving to fight in World War One while she was pregnant with John Boy. And no doubt having to go through that alone including when Ben (John's brother) was killed influenced her later on. But other things I just can't fathom. Like her whining about the family being apart in the "Burn Out" episodes after the fire damaged their house. I mean come on!. Your entire family is within walking distance!. And you know they'll all be back when the house is repaired. Jim Bob turned me off with his whining about not being able to become a combat pilot. As I think John pointed out, if he wanted to fly in combat there were plenty of chances. He could fly as a navigator, bombardier, or gunner. All those were important positions. Erin seemed to raise whining to a fine art.

I don't think I have a least favourite, If pushed, I'd say Mary Ellen and Erin when young . Mary Ellen because she was such a drama queen, always threatening to wham someone. Erin was such a Tell-tale. I still liked them though, you need a bit of contrast. i didn’t like it when John boy painted a beautiful car as he put it and they acted like they were poor when they owned their house and all that land the mountain and they had indoor plumbing and always had food to eat why when I was little we didn’t own a house and we had an outhouse until I went to high school we carried our water a long ways we were poor

People in rural areas who could grow/raise their own food and hunt fared pretty well through the Depression. Earl Hamner has acknowledged that himself. Having a solid roof over one's head and food on the table certainly goes a long way.

All surfaces on set had to be dulled down so you couldn't see reflections of crew, equipment and other stuff off set. If you look at the reflections on the car before it's painted, you may catch something. I don't really understand why the painting was important to the storyline and why they didn't just show it painted to begin with.

^ I think it was painted just to make it John-Boy's car. It's the same as moving into a new home and painting the walls.

Perhaps, and Mary Ellen and Erin sewing new seat covers for it was important in making the car more John-Boy's than Hyder Rudge's car as well.

Elizabeth for me. After she got about 8 she was just annoying. In a few episodes she's old enough to cut her own food yet grandma is still cutting her food.
Johnboy annoyed me in the episode with the German lady(Baldwin cousin)bc he kept going for the jugular when she didn't want to talk. He had this look in his eyes.

I loved all of the eleven Waltons. None were perfect, but then who is? I was annoyed by Grandma's and Olivia's objections to The Recipe, for instance, but I still found each and every character to be delightful!
Was Corabeth a "main character?" I did not like her at all! I'm sure Ronnie Claire Edwards was a delightful person, but I always found Corabeth annoying, at best, and downright insufferable, at worst. Although I did like her sister Orma Lee!
When Rose came to live with the family, Serena was okay, but Jeffrey had zero redeeming qualities.

I think Cora Beth could be considered a main character. She was in the opening credits in the later seasons. I understand why some people didn’t like her, but I think she brought an interesting perspective to the show. I think Ike adored her and she adored him, though they had a unique way of showing their affection to one another.

I think Ronnie Claire Edwards was the best actor on the show, but I am not sure what the point of Corabeth was.
Why couldn't Ike stay single? What did the marriage bring to the show that the show needed?

My biggest problem with Corabeth was that she was not the same woman that Ike fell in love with and married. She went from a shy, lonely, devoted daughter to a snobby, hoity-toity, pretentious *name-which-will-be-censored*. Ronnie Claire was a good actress, but I don't know why she did a complete makeover of her character into someone that Ike would never have fallen in love with let alone marry.

John Boy. I get tired of his self righteous, usually angry, preaching to the other characters. None more so than his nonsensical tirade to Mary Ellen in "The Quilting." Mary Ellen is right about the quilting, and after she comes down to join the other ladies, supposedly because she took John Boy's "lesson" to heart, Emily Baldwin proves it, by saying something like "John will have to beat them [suitors] off with a stick." But his other speeches, such as the one to Gino (the boy from the CCC) are usually pretty hard to take. And, heresy of heresies, I really don't like the way Richard Thomas plays the character. I much prefer his replacement late in the series. How do you like them apples?
