Elizabeth, hands down, every time. I never found her cute and the writers kept her infantilised into her early teens. That annoyed me. Next, which might surprise, is John Boy himself. His attitude towards his few girlfriends was poor, like he wanted their attentions but ultimately he was more for getting ahead with his career than making any commitment. I found him incredibly self-centred. I totally agree about Elizabeth, but I loved John Boy.

That almost every character is mentioned on this thread is a testament to the writing and acting.
The show isn't supposed to be about a perfect, flawless family that acts appropriately and politely in all situations, but, rather, a very human family with flaws and frailties.

^ I've often wondered if that was from direction or if it was just a Jon Walmsley mannerism. I tend to think it's a mannerism. It happens too often even with different directors. Well no one wants their back to the camera! But it could have also been a direction.

Are you sure some of it isn't stock footage? On the original Star Trek a clip of Sulu turning and looking toward the captains chair while something interesting appeared on the viewscreen was used time and time again.

^ No. Different pianos. Different music. Different settings. Different shirts.

I can't say that there was one that I disliked when they were on or the story was more about them. Pretty much equal. I did not like the episodes where John was the focal point when he went to work in other towns, but I dug on John as much as I did any of the others.

I often wondered to myself: "Who dressed him?"

I often wondered to myself: "Who dressed him?" I never took him seriously when he tried to act like a leader. that wasn't him

I don't think I have a least favourite, If pushed, I'd say Mary Ellen and Erin when young . Mary Ellen because she was such a drama queen, always threatening to wham someone. Erin was such a Tell-tale. I still liked them though, you need a bit of contrast.

Elizabeth wore too short dresses and Jim bob looked like he never brushed his teeth and Erin was no beauty like she thought

Not got any real issues with any of the regular cast. My issues are with "replacements". Curt and of course John Boy. Nothing against the actors but bad mistake on both counts. Nothing wrong with Robert Wightman's acting but not convincing as John Boy. Not his fault. Just a bad idea to try to replace Richard Thomas
