Elizabeth wore too short dresses and Jim bob looked like he never brushed his teeth and Erin was no beauty like she thought Actually they looked realistic for the time. Elizabeth's dresses were too short because during the depression they wore clothes until they were completely worn out or didn't fit at all. As long as the clothes were clean and covered their underwear they wore it. Elizabeth would have gotten a longer dress when Erin's no longer fitting dresses were passed down to her. Except when Jim Bob got the top of Erin's dress as a blouse. LOL No one had bleached white teeth back then and the family likely couldn't afford a dentist and even toothpaste probably would have been a luxury. A popular cleaner for teeth at that time was baking soda.
As for Erin I thought she was the prettiest of the girls. With index fingers substituting for toothbrushes.

I questioned this in another forum as Cindy Brady wore short dresses and the girls on My Three Sons (Jody Foster and that Dodie chick) wore short dresses. Their answers that it was the 60s and 70s and everyone showed a lot more leg back then. Shirley Temple wore short dresses and so did Darla on Little Rascals. It seems like they just put little girls into dresses that showed their underwear and they thought it was cute. I think its wrong and creepy. I think there is a thread on this here somewhere.

The question of least favorite Walton characters just occurred to me the other day when watching one of the many episodes where Ben gets bend out of shape. Not one other person on this thread mentioned Ben. I find that shocking.
I think he is my least favorite Walton. Just a few times I can think of - when he married Cindy and thought being a man was being the boss of her, when he was going to kill the fox to sell the pelt, the many different things he did with the mill against John's wishes. Then again, he always sees his mistakes in the end and apologizes but then a few episodes later, he's at it again.
Then again, he's never boring...like Jason.

It's funny, because I do remember a time where Ben was kind of annoying to me - but he really grew on me over the years. He's the Walton you expect to make mistakes. He makes a lot of dumb decisions, but he's kind of lovable for it. It's interesting you find Jason boring though. I love him. Once he steps into John-Boy's shoes after he leaves, he gets involved in some really good storylines (and a fair few even before then). To be honest though, while John-Boy is a consistent favourite, I think every other member of the Walton family has been my second favourite at some point or another - all it takes is for me to watch an episode where they take centre stage and I think, yep, that's incredible. A fantastic ensemble.

Gee, if you took your time I'm sure you could find something you didn't like about every character but you must remember that each actor of course chooses the method or way they portray them. Case in point Ellen Corby fought to portray grandma as a crusty older woman instead of a sweet sugary traditional grandmother. She felt that that's the way she saw the character and that's the way Earl and the producers let her play the role. Then you've got to remember there's different writers over nine years with different writing styles and even if Earl still went over every script before production different story lines week to week. Taking that all into account and picking out the least favorite character I'd have to say it's Ben Walton because it always seemed like he had a gripe about something. He had a short man's complex when it came to respect, his opinion or bossing around someone like Cindy but then again Eric Scott portrayed him that way and if that's the way he was written and directed then he did a great job. Sure Livy and her overzealous religious beliefs bugged me, Erin and her portrayal as this mountain girl beauty who had no talent except that bothered me as well but again that's the way they were written and directed.

I’m not really sure. There was a little something about them all that we can look at and say we don’t like but for me it would be hard to say I just out and out didn’t like him/her. Initially, I would have said Ben but Ben had to go through a maturing process. As mentioned, he had the height issue. He was constantly taking orders from John and I believe when he married Cindy he felt that at that point he had someone to order around. I recall in one of the reunion movies he and John got into an argument over getting a new truck. In the end John was proud of Ben for standing up to him because he recognized that Ben had matured and though not always right, still deserved to be listened to, hence the new truck. I think Elizabeth got on my nerves more than any of them.

^ Ben had the 'height' issues and they popped up on more than one occasion. Eric had no such problems with his height (or lack thereof). As he said in a video interview somewhere, he was taller than both his mother and father.

My least favorite is Corabeth. She just thinks she is better than everyone else. Mary Ellen especially when she was 13 which is the age I just turned is a bit ME ME ME all the time. I hope I am not like that this year.

Each character of The Waltons has a place. Even Cora Beth who certainly can rub people the wrong way from time to time has her place. Someone mentioned Ben and I feel Ben had the temper of his daddy a bit. Much more so then John Boy, Jason, or Jim Bob. I remember specifically when he was fighting with Cindy after they were first married and also after she was pregnant and he was working too much. The one character that I felt out of place was Curt. It wasn't that I disliked the actor, but he just didn't seem right for Mary Ellen. Yes, he and Mary Ellen were both very opinionated at times and quite bullheaded. I thought the romance sprouted way too quickly during her engagement to Dr. David Spencer. I thought she should have stayed with him all along and they should have gotten married. I didn't write the story though.

Corabeth is the easy one to turn to here. She seems to come off as a snob much of the time and doesn't appreciate how nice Ike is to her unless something tragic or over the top happens to Ike.
As for a least favorite Walton family character, I struggled with this but I am going with Olivia. She can be an extremely caring a loving mother, but she can also be a very stubborn and set in her ways person as well. John explains this really well when he has a dispute with her about the Baldwin Sisters wanting to adopt Jason in the Thanksgiving Story episode.

Cora Beth is an easy answer.
I never really cared for John Boy. Always felt like he was an egocentric, self-absorbed, borderline narcissist. The fact that he could sit in his window, and watch his dad, grandpa, and younger siblings do hard labor while he “worked” (if you’re not getting paid for it, it’s a hobby, not work) always drove me nuts.
I also didn’t like Ben. He was always so dang whiny, and it only got worse when he got older.

Everyone seems to mention Corabeth. There are two characters that aren't really main characters but are way worse than Corabeth and they are Son Slater who raped a girl and Lutie Bascomb who physically abused his own daughter. Those two things make Corabeth look like a Saint. Even J.D. Pickett was an idiot, but nowhere near as bad as Son Slater and Lutie Bascomb.

All of the younger children. They got away with a lot and were never held accountable. The only episode in 8 seasons where one of the children were disciplined was when Ben was grounded when he wrecked John Boys car. Mary Ellen runs away in the first season, and they have the other children chipping in buying her a bus ticket to Washington D.C. Jason is working for the Baldwins and that was fine, John boy could not get a job to help them get a deed. But the absolute worst was Elizabeth. Her character development was way off and the writing for Elizabeth was down right atrocious. She caused so much trouble, even in the pilot everybody but her got in trouble when she cried and carried on because the doll she received was broken. They all got in trouble for going to the gift giving. Just about every episode she caused trouble. The German Spies, Jim Bob being a foundling, The Christmas Carol, all were bad.
