Thank you all for being honest on a private and difficult conversation. I had panic attacks 12 years ago which lasted 6 hours or more and I called 911 twice, missed work, and was given pills. I stopped taking them because I knew if I continued the rest of my life would be the same.
Wish I had known you then. Very lonely going through those episodes. My heart cries for anyone who is having them. I have been fortunate not to have had an episode for a decade. Wish I could tell you what made them stop but I still think it is a chemical problem. Drugs though mask it..just my opinion.

Unless people have panic attacks, they will never understand. It is a horrible feeling, and I got to a point where I would not leave my house. Agoraphobia is what they told me I had. I also missed work, and felt sick all the time. I convinced myself that I was dying, and I was scared all the time.
I am ok now, although, I do struggle sometimes, and I have to talk myself out of the attacks. I feel in control now, and that helps me a lot.

Have you ever noticed that the majority of the time, the Waltons just come in & sit down to eat without washing their hands? The very few times that I have seen them wash their hands at the kitchen sink....it is just basically barely get your fingers wet & wipe them off with a dish towel. I have always taught my kids to wash up before every meal so it bothers me every time I just see them come from outside, the living room, etc.. and just sit down ready to eat. I guess it would have cut into the production time to show them washing up (LOL). But at least Olivia or Grandma could have said......Supper's ready go wash up, or ask them did you wash up? We never see them going potty either but they must have

marylou01, I’m not germaphobic, but I won’t eat at a buffet. I’ve worked in food establishments and you have no idea the things that go on behind closed doors. Some people who work in the kitchens don’t care about being careful and clean. Coughing or sneezing without covering their mouth. Leaving food out for a long time before using. Dropping food on the kitchen floor, picking it up and still using it. Oh yes.. I have seen it all. No buffets for me, ever! I don’t worry about germs though and am a very strong believer that a little dirt and some critters thrown in just strengthens your immune system.
I think OCD is more a learned condition than hereditary. We can inherit a trait to be more on the nervous side, but what we do with that nervousness is our own choice. Some people deal with it by taking drugs, some people deal with it with OCD, some people deal with it with a lot of physical activity and some people deal with it with counseling and feedback therapy. The most important thing to be aware of is not to rely on drugs to keep you so sedated that you smother the condition because it also will affect your quality of life. People with OCD usually have anxiety disorder and it’s a tough thing to live with. Unless someone has had it, they don’t have a clue what it's about.
Yep. OCD and anxiety are the best of friends. Both are disorders that have the power to ruin lives; medication is again just a suppressant. With the right help and understanding even the worst of fears are surmountable. mercantile OCD is also a former diagnosis for Asperger's (High functioning Autism), I know because I have it- The Waltons became my family and you don't know how crushed I was to find out how fictionalized it was. When I watched TV I was a Walton, and they were going to take care of me - and in a way they did, they gave me hope that life could somehow be better than it was. I was also crushed when the Waltons seemed to stop going to Church and taking their faith seriously in the later seasons. I hope Earl's real family is religious.

Daniela, if you still have issues with panic attacks, get the book 'From Panic to Power'. It will help you immensely!
elrondaragorn, I'm pretty sure the Waltons continued to go to church, but it just wasn't focused on and even if the shows weren't authentic and real experiences, we can still 'escape' into their world and imagine it's all very real. Least ways I do and I feel so good when I watch them. They're my dream family, real or not!

Thanks Marilyn, I will get that book, and let you know if it helps me.
Did you ever read the book by Alison Angrim (*Nellie Olsen) ? I remember you saying you wanted to get it, I'm just curious if you read it, what you thought of it.

Yes I did get her book from our library and didn't like it at all. I couldn't even finish it. Her foul mouth and negative attitude was a real turn-off.

Yes, it's true. Someone mentioned as well, not too long ago in another thread, that they never finish what they are eating. They come down to breakfast, and Livvy says, "Go to school", and all the food is still on their plates. I think all TV shows are like that. I've noticed on shows, people will yes when offered a cup of coffee, and then take one sip, and leave. Maybe it's not attractive to watch someone eat? I don't know. I've noticed that all the time on TV shows ... no one eats much unless it's an important part of the show/movie. Another pet peeve is when people are supposedly carrying a container of hot coffee/latte whatever, but it obvious there is nothing in the cup as the person is flinging it around like it's empty because it IS empty! Awk!

Every time they took that hot coffee pot off the stove and set it on the table I cringed. You would never do that with a real HOT coffee pot and women would notice that.
