In one of the first episodes at least once John smoked a corn cob pipe.

Ellen Corby- Grandma "Esther" Walton lights up at a celebrity event for Burt Reynolds in the 80's. What I find concerning about her smoking in 1985 is this is after her stroke.

I'm glad you found smoking to be repugnant bc it is.
Back in the 60s and 70s it was common for tv shows to show smoking. My grandparents, aunts, uncles all smoked.
As disgusting as it is, they also had candy cigarettes that had almost identical packaging as the real ones.

There was one little local store we had that always kept them in stock.

They were pretty much exact to what the real cigarette packs looked like.

Now, if only the governments would grow the b@lls to do something about this. These are not candies meant for children!

Of course we wanted stuff that looked like cigarette packages. We wanted to be our parents and grandparents. I’ve been dipping Skoal since I was 16. I don’t think it had anything to do with candy cigarette packaging.

The kids wanted to be just like the adults so the people making the products packaged it as such even though they knew the product they were selling to the children was harmless they also knew that with many of these kids they were just following what their parents were doing and they were marketing for the future. There is a reason why candy cigarettes are not on the market any longer.

Smoking is definitely marketed less and non-existent on commercials, but still young people like myself still see how it is glamorized in many ways. Still many young celebrities and musicians smoke or vape and even though they say they want to set good examples young people see this and follow this. Peer pressure is also still there. I am an example of this, I rarely smoke cigarettes or vape unless I am at a party with my friends. Sure I know it is not good for me. I'd be stupid not to know that, but I get caught up in the whole party scene. I do vape more than I smoke cigarettes. I think I can count on two hands the amount of cigarettes I have smoked in my lifetime. Not saying that is a good thing and neither is vaping, but vaping actually does calm me down.
On Waltons Mountain it was a different time and honestly I am surprised that I don't see more of the characters smoking. It was definitely more prominent back in the older days, but for some reason on Waltons Mountain with exception of the rare occasion of what I have seen so far in the episodes I have seen there hasn't been too much smoking.
When I saw Aimee Godsey smoke in the Mother's Day movie that was the first that I saw a character smoke.

I remember those candy cigarettes. I am 66 and clearly remember cigarette commercials and ads on billboards. I don’t support cigarettes or vaping but if I had to choose I would go with cigarettes. A person will smoke it and put it out and it’s done. When the weather here is warm and we are sitting out the vaping people seem to never put the thing down and that must be pretty dangerous.

I must be not in the norm. I only use my vape pen about 5 hits per day unless I am at a party with friends or something like that. It is probably best not to do it at all, but it does seem to have a calming effect on me.

There is a bubble gum brand called Big League Chew

I would think that people would only vape a few times a day but people here do it much more. And these are decent people. It’s not like a bunch of wild teens. Like I said, I don’t condone either but in all honesty I do smoke on occasion but once I sold my home and moved here I couldn’t smoke inside and what a gift that was.

This is just my opinion on smoking. I think it stinks and makes everything smell awful. There is also the whole that it is horrible for your health. When I went to the Middle School, I didn't know of any of the kids that smoked or vaped, but the high school kids in my neighborhood a few of them do vape and smoke and I don't get that at all.
