I do shave my legs and my armpits. I have never been in a tanning bed in my life. I am happy to glow in the dark.
One great perk at both Lancôme and Ritz were free waxings -- the only time I've had it done (legs).... the pain is not bad if the esthetician has been trained well and knows what she's doing !!
As far as tanning salons, I find it hard to believe that they haven't been outlawed.... skin cancer scares me !!
Yep...I'm right up there with you on the tanning salons, Jeri. Skin cancer should scare everyone. I've been down that road and it scared the begeebers out of me because I had the deadliest kind 13 years ago. Luckily, it was caught very early and I'm fine. It completely changes your outlook on the sun and life in general when you are told you have early Melanoma. I go to a dermatologist every year for a complete skin check. Wear sunscreen. It's one of the best things you can ever do to protect your skin. I am one of the lucky ones and know it. I'm catching up on past threads here tonight and am literally chuckling my way through some of these great posts....you, too, Dowsee. Geez....I've lived through it all and feel old.....girdles, hose with or without seams, pantyhose, pin curled hair, Dippity Doo and hair in curlers left to air dry for hours, or sitting under a home hood dryer in curlers like Jeri did for nearly an hour. Looking back, sleeping in curlers every single night was pure torture. How I ever did that, I'll never know, but I did it for work in the morning. Then, there was tying the special triangular-shaped scarf (made just for curlers) worn over said curlers and running out to do an errand. Yikes! I can't even imagine now how I ever did that. I think I need to work at reforming myself and my methods. My problem is, I love makeup and fussing with my hair.....to get it just right.. But.....I spend way too much time doing it all. My fellow staffers at school used to tease me about always being 'so put together.' Everything always has to match with me. I know it's crazy in this day and age of 'wash and go' and keeping it simple, but I can't seem to help myself. Maybe I'm too old to change now.

Although I have little reason nowadays, I love the times I need to get "all gussied up" -- feels very feminine and brings back the good old days ... those who have only known the "wash and go" routine don't know what they're missing .... DON'T REFORM !

I wear panty hose, but just when I go to church,I even wear them in the summertime.I wear knee highs with most of my skirts.I shave most of the time except on Fridays and Tuesday or Wednesday,if I go somewhere that evening I do shave.Ever once in awhile I don't shave on Thursday.I shave my chin, and up above my lip,do any of you ladies do that.

I noticed in the picture of the one that gives you a perament, that it looks just like the one that Corabeth used on Olivia.

There are some wild-looking contraptions in that link, Kimberly! I had forgotten about that style of hairdryer in the first picture. This is what was available for home use when I was in high school in the early to mid-'60's, and I used one of these. I used to do my homework under one of these hair dryers. I got a good 45 minutes to an hour of homework completed while waiting for my hair to dry. I used hot rollers and a Lady Sunbeam hood dryer in the '70's and maybe very early '80's. Then, big hair became all the rage in the 80's, so I ditched the hood dryer, permed my long hair, blow dried it, and let it go. I was one wild looking dame when I look at pics from the '80's. Thank goodness they invented curling irons/brushes for those of us like me who fuss with their hair.

My maternal grandmother and my momma both had that hair dryer on the first page. I used them a few times when I was growing up, they used them a lot. I can't imagine people believing that contraption could actually give you dimples. OUCH!

I feel like we "might" have had a hair dryer like the one on the first page??? But can't remember. If we did have it, I didn't use it much. I was lucky that I had long, straight hair. That's what was in style in the 70's so it was perfect. It was naturally straight (being long helped) so I didn't have to do anything with it. Although I used to like setting it with electric curlers so that it was all curly at the end. I always thought that looked nice. Later on I had curling irons. When I was in college I did get a body wave and had my long hair layered. I could air dry it and it was very curly or I could blow it out and then curl it for a nice wavy effect.
