Johnboy did not have any extra-marital relationship with Simone. Charles Hanover, however, probably wanted to have some kind of pre-marital relationship with Erin as he engaged in smooching which can lead to serious consequences. And where does this Betsy Thompson come from? Was that her maiden name? I do not think her maiden name was mentioned but it could have been in passing. Her married name was Randolph,,,,,

OMG! We engage in a little speculation and get raked over the coals?
It is not clear what happened between John-Boy and Simone. No one knows for sure if they had an affair, but the possibility exists because there was no clear resolution on camera.
Charles Hanover was being a typical teenage obnoxious jerk. When I was young I went out with my share of them, and the only thing you can do to them when they get fresh is to smack them hard and walk away.
I'm not so sure simple smooching can lead to serious consequences. It's actually normal to experiment, to a certain degree, during one's teenage years. If children are raised with a good moral base -- not necessarily Christian -- then they'll know when to stop and walk away. I did, and I'm Jewish!
The "Betsy Thompson" was an honest mistake. At that time, I had forgotten what Betsy's last name was, but thanks for correcting me.
Just remember -- it's only a TV show! Let's have a little fun with it!

Debby, no one is getting raked over the coals -- just folks giving their opinions...... don't take it personally.

On The Medal when Corabeth went out with Rodger she wore a dress that had a very plunging neckline. A seductive maneuver which was done by somone who in other episodes would be mean to Daisy Garner, call Amy a hussy, faint when Rev Buchanan would bring Marcia Woolery to The Celebration, tell Amy not to play with Melissa, insult Hazel Lamphere(and Hazel retorted by presenteing a very concise and gentle description of the most wonderful thing that can happen to a woman)----andin real life she would buy what was once the most beautiful place in Dallas(See the Walton's Forum Archives for Corabeth Buys Church in Dallas from August 2009)

I won't deny that Cora Beth Godsey was a hypocrite. She wasn't one of my favorite characters, but she did clearly illustrate the importance of the Golden Rule, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," and two other Bible quotations which I do not have a citation for:
"Judge not, lest ye be judged."
and
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
I'm not trying to drag religion into the thread -- I'm using it to illustrate the point that Cora Beth, as a Christian woman, wasn't acting very Christian. Even Olivia Walton, who gave (almost) everyone the benefit of the doubt, got fed up with her. Cora Beth was conceited, petty, jealous, and bigoted -- I don't believe she liked Jews (e.g., Toni Hazelton) or Catholics (e.g., the Baldwin Sisters' relative Mary Frances [?]). And I think Ronnie Claire Edwards, who is the opposite of Cora Beth, did an excellent job portraying her.
As for Miss Edwards buying that church to restore and live in, there are no secular or religious laws against it, that I know of. I'm all for preserving historical sites, whether they are private homes, churches, synagogues/temples, etc., and if Ronnie Claire Edwards can do the best job preserving the church she bought, then let her!

I think Olivia and Grandma were both pretty bigoted, too, although Liv softened a bit with the help of John and Zeb as the years went by. Both Olivia and Grandma would usually come around in time, but their initial reaction to things outside their realm was usually pretty narrow-minded.....

Olivia and Grandma *did* come around, but I don't think they were ever as narrow-minded as Cora Beth. If Olivia and Grandma were bigoted in any way, I think it was out of (small-town) ignorance, which can be overcome. Cora Beth's bigotry, on the other hand, I think stemmed from malice and her own conceit, and the only way to get her to back down was to publicly embarass her. ChildFree23/Debby

I've met people in real life that are about like Corabeth and some are even in my own family. I think people like her are insecure or something but after all Ronnie Claire Edwards was just playing a part so who knows, she might not be like that in real life at all. I do beleive in God and I attend church but I am not a deaply religious person and people like that are the main reason why. I call it self rightious arrogance.

Ike saw the real Cora Beth underneath. Frequently people who present that kind of facade have tremendous insecurities and they try to hide them the wrong way..... Luckily, there are enough Ikes in the world who can see clearly.

Your religion is about you and God and nobody else. You can't let other people or their actions determine how you feel about God. They are them and He is the great I AM. Kinda like saying you're a husband but not as good as you could be because you see alot of bad married couples out there. Or, I'll be your friend, but I won't be a really good friend because I see too many other people who aren't good friends. Your relationship with God is between you and Him, just like your marriage is between your wife and you and our friendship is between you and me. Don't let anyone else determine what kind of person you are. We are all stronger than that.

Now Moe. We have been friends now for quite a while and I intend to keep it that way because I know we have agreed to disagree before and always worked it out, so no offence. Anyway, I don't like arrogant people and acting that way is not, as the bible says, Christ Like or doing unto others, so they are the sinners, not me. Judging is also a sin. I guess my sin is in, turn the other cheek so therfore I just stay away from it, all I can. Nobody is perfect by any means and everything is just not all or none either. Remember what I told you that my preacher did that was quite a little sin, for a preacher but I still like him and still go to his church. I don't let people like that make me the way they are for sure. Actually when I see a little sin like what I told you about, I kinda laugh and think, I guess they think they are going to fool God but the joke is on them because you can't fool God.

First of all, I haven't said anything that would threaten any friendships here.. :DI don't think you understood what I was saying. What others do is their thing. Don't let what they do, affect what you do..that's all I'm saying. Ignore the bad and just hope for the good in others to come out. God will judge and I'm sure glad we don't have that job. If a preacher is sinning, then that's between him and God and if the congregation decides to fire him, so be it.
