I think it is interesting to note that Warner Brothers, (who has made $3 Billion from Friends) bought Lorimar, the production company of The Waltons. If big companies such as Warner Bros. had a soul, they'd make sure that the actors from their earlier programs, the actors who helped build them into such goliaths, would be taken better care of. This way those actors would get residual checks significantly higher than 25 cents!! Absolutely in agreement with this! I also don't begrudge the actors earning some money from autographs - they seem to be uniformly generous with their time for fans. We're an awfully demanding lot these days. And to be fair to Robert Wightman, it wasn't his fault the stories took such a depressing turn when he returns from the war. I've always blamed the writers for not making it easier for him to step into the role. That sad-sack story in NY City was just awful - right up there with the story of Erin's despondent artist. I can't think of anyone who could have followed Richard Thomas's portrayal of John Boy without garnering a lot of flack. That episode of erin and the artist is hilarious. unintentional but still funny

hey, who cares what I think ? lol you guys actually went, had a great time and don't mind, so what do I know ? lol Just my personal opinion...Like I said, I love the show and the cast. They seem like they are really good people. They would probably understand my point of view. They May not agree with it, but I don't think they would hold it against me. I just couldn't charge for an autograph. OR pay for one. I have just had a lot of bad experiences with pro athletes. that soured meI've been reading back through some old threads and spotted your comment about pro athletes....
I, too, have had some bad experiences with pro athletes -- (even worked for the New York Giants football team -- they were ALL jerks...) used to stop in at various local baseball "shows" -- mostly to see what pros may be there.... my worse run-in was with Don Drysdale, circa 1985.... he was making his way to the door, on his way out, and I stopped him with the $10 photo I'd had to buy in order to get his autograph (probably be $50 today)... it was shortly before my Dad's 70th birthday (a huge Dodger fan).... he was extraordinarily rude because I asked him to make it out to "Dear Doug".... annoyed that I tried to tell him that I was from an old Brooklyn family, Dodger fans since the early 1900's, etc.. and that it was for my Dad's birthday, etc.... Never told Dad, but I could hardly stand seeing the pict sitting there on a bookshelf at Dad's !!! I tore it up when Dad died 15 years later. Should have mailed the pieces back to Drysdale with an appropriate note !!!

So nice to see your post, dear friend Jeri Jet. I have missed you so much. We have been in the USA during this year on furlough from our work in Ecuador. We return to South America on August 3. During this year we were able to help my parents downsize and sell their house of 42 years, something which we could not have done had we been in Ecuador.
I also got to see two shows in New York, "Miss Saigon" in March, which was just so-so. The main attraction was spending the day in the city with my lovely wife Marisol sans kids. That we have never done before. Then I saw "The Golden Apple" in May, part of the Encores series. That was sheer delight, after having loved the original cast album with Kaye Ballard et al. By any chance did you see that show during the original run?
I recently wrote to request a signed Playbill of "Hello Dolly" with Bette Midler and David Hyde Pierce. They wrote back telling me that there was a $50 charge for it, so I passed. However, there are many Broadway performers who are quite gracious to their fans at the stage door following the show. Among the ones who have honored their fans, including me, are Richard Thomas, Angela Lansbury, Marian Seldes, Audra McDonald, Faith Prince, and others. So it is not all bad. I guess Autograph Shows are what they are, and people go into it awares.

Huh -- Kaye Ballard -- hadn't thought her in years! No, never saw the original, but did attend the show at our local Westchester Broadway Theatre many years ago.... also so-so!
Just today Kimberley told me about your spending time together at Walton reunion(s)... your "teaming up" doesn't surprise me at all -- you've both always been favorites of mine!!
Had thought at one time that I'd try to see you while you're here, but I've developed quite debilitating mobility issues and now only get out once every other week or so, when my cupboards are bare.
Oops, I should have written in a Private Message -- sorry to uninterested forum members....
Will write a lengthier message soon. Have been sitting at my pc for too long, now.
Love, Jeri

It's good to see you again, Jeri. I'm sorry you haven't been well. I hope you can find something that will help you feel better. PT can do wonders with the right therapist. In any event, though, welcome back!!

Hi again, well, we are back in Ecuador now and looking for housing. Going to see two more houses tomorrow and hopefully something will turn up soon as we need to enroll the kids in Ecuadorian school.
Saw the Meryl Streep flick "Florence Foster Jenkins" movie on the flight from Atlanta to Ecuador and enjoyed it very much. She is buried in Wilkes Barre, PA, near where I was living this past year. Did any of you see the movie?

Did any of you see the movie? My mother's favorite actress was Meryl Streep, but I've never heard of that movie.

It´s quite good, about a real philanthropist of the arts who decides to start doing concerts herself, despite not really being able to sing, although she does give it her best effort. Her husband decides to pay certain art critics off to give favorable reviews but one comes out that is truthful and it devastates her. The film presents it as causing a downward spiral that leads to her subsequent death. Meryl was nominated for an Oscar for her role. Florence is buried in Wilkes Barre, PA.
Has anyone seen this movie?

It is possible to get Walton autographs for free through the mail, although it can be a time-consuming tedious process. I recently received two by Richard Thomas and one from Melody Thomas Scott, who portrayed Darlene Jarvis, Ben´s love interest. She now plays on "The Young and the Restless." But these same people often charge when they are at an autograph show. It is part of the expectation that fans know about beforehand. Richard and the others will charge for autographs at the gathering in October. There is no avoiding that!

I definitely agree that Wightman’s wife should have handed the phone to him. Perhaps that call was just what he was waiting for. Someone to reach out to him and make him finally feel included. The sad part is that if that’s her overall attitude towards the situation, we may never be able to acknowledge our positive thoughts towards him and that’s sad. I would think in support she would want him to hear them. Nothing wrong with a little self-esteem booster every now and again.
