I feel bad for that dude. Any actor who needed a break in the biz would have taken the role. I blame Lorimar, I doubt Earl had to do anything about that.
you guys need to invite him

I'm not sure, but I'm thinking no, he has never been to one. I don't know if he has been invited or not.

His name is Robert Wightman. Carolyn Grinnell did invite him to her Waltons Reunion Dinner in Burbank California which took place September 28th, 2012. When she called to invite him, it was Robert's wife that answered the phone. She wanted to know how much he would get paid to come. When Carolyn told her that he would not get paid to attend, she said no and hung up the phone. Personally, I think his wife should have relayed the message to Robert and let him have made the decision.
Robert would have gotten a free supper (his wife too if she had decided to attend) and he would have made money charging for his autograph like the other cast members that were present that night.

I find it ironic that his picture on imdb is of him portraying John Boy with Ralph Walton (John Walton Sr.) beside him.

wait a sec...*charge* for autographs?!. I would never charge for an autograph Pics? Well, maybe IF it was a photograph taken by a professional btw, Did any of ya get your pic with The Pony Cart? I saw that add on Facebook. I can sort of understand that one. And It looks like most of the cast didn't have any problem with taking pictures with ya using your own cameras/phones or whatever, right? Nobody refused that did they ? Autographs though ? Maybe if it was a book signing and you had to buy their book, that's about it though. But to charge for black and white promotional head shot of them ?! no way.

I didn't pay for any autographs. I have most of their autographs already, and I got them back in the days when they were free. The only 2 cast members who I had my picture taken with were Cissy Wellman and Tammi Bula. The funny thing is, Tammi wanted my picture. When she found out that I am the administrator of the forum, she took out her phone and took a selfie of the two of us.
I did pay for a pony cart picture with Eric Scott, but it was taken by a professional photographer. I guess the pony cart will be permanently housed at the museum in Schuyler, so it will be possible to get more pictures of it next time I go there.

Cool, I was just saying what I would do . Not judging anybody if they did pay. I just wouldn't do it. Back in my day you could send them a fan letter and they would send one to ya for free, but who knows if they really signed It .lol.
If I was some Hollywood star ,I wouldn't charge for an autograph . I would consider that part of the deal.. EVEN if I knew for fact they were gonna sell it for profit on ebay or something.
Some of these people, well, they should be thankful that we even remember them.
Hey, Brenda has their been people that you have met at these things that didn't know anything about this forum and then joined?

There have been people at past events who heard about the forum then joined. I don't know if any of them still participate or not.

I don't blame these cast members at all for charging for autographs. They put in a really long day on Saturday. They should be compensated for it. I was lucky enough to get many of their autographs several years ago when the crowds weren't so large and they did it for free.

I agree, Brenda. This is WORK for them--hard work. Being nice and congenial to thousands of people who walk by, signing your name thousands of times. I couldn't do it.

hard work? spending a whole day being worshipped by fans telling them how great they are ? Love the show. Love the cast, but come on....This isn't exactly Beatlemania in 1964. To *us* yes, they are superstars, but they aren't exactly household names. they aren't doing this stuff everyday
If one of them actually said, "Man, this is hard work doing these fan things. I want their money " I would immediately lose a lot of respect for them. Not saying you guys have to agree with that. That's just my opinion. To me it would be like that saying about "never meet your hero's"
If it is hard work to be nice to fans then don't come....Being famous is why a lot of these people got in the Business .

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. Maybe they aren't exactly household names, but they don't have to interact with the fans at all. I think most if not all of them were there to honor the memory of Earl Hamner, the person who gave them the wonderful opportunity to appear in an award-winning television show. They weren't there to be "worshipped by fans." Meeting fans, signing autographs, posing for pictures, etc, was secondary to the real purpose of this event. Just my opinion.

My Uncle Tom did many book signings and appearances he said that it is hard sitting and signing autographs, smiling and dealing with the public for hours on end. .Most fans were gracious and grateful but not all of them. You get fans who are obnoxious and rude, who think they are entitled to that autograph and the celebrity's time.simply because they bought a book. Try smiling and acting pleasant when you really want to smack the s--- out of someone! But he also acknowledged the fans were the reason he was in the position he was in.If no one had bought his books he would have been just another obscure insurance salesman.
So I can see The Walton's actors charging a fee to appear at events or for set autograph sessions because it is time out of their busy lives.

I agree with every word. To be honest I am quite shocked that any of the cast would charge for an autograph...mindblowing.
Will Geer would have never allowed that ....rest his soul.

I think there is a big difference between one person walking up to you and asking for an autograph and a public event where you have to sit in a small, stuffy room for 8, 9, 10 hours while thousands of people come by. Imagine just signing your name that many times. They also had to travel--most of them from the west coast. They gave up an entire weekend of their lives. I know how precious my time is. You forget that these actors really don't owe us anything at this point. Most of them aren't even in the business anymore. I certainly don't begrudge them being paid for their appearances. It's also worth noting that they made this show in the 70's when actors were royally hosed and didn't get much in the way of royalties. So none of them are getting rich off of the Waltons anymore, despite the fact that it's never been off the air.
But as Breda said...we can agree to disagree.
