Okay I am putting it out there but what do you guys think about a new Homecoming movie. New actors but based on Earls book of course. I saw a remake of Little House on the Prairie by Walt Disney and it was very good! Wish there had been a sequel. Don't get me wrong , the first Homecoming is a Christmas classic but it would be nice to have another. Thoughts?...

I have the remake by Disney and I think it is great and much more realistic of how things were on the prairie. We did not have to put up with this in the remake Mr. Landon got away with so much because the people who lived that life were gone, while those that lived the homecoming life are still with us. I am not sure you can make the homecoming any better than it already is.

My daughter loved the Disney version of Little House On The Prarie. Like you said, it was actually better then the show.

I do not necessarily think that a remake would be better than the original, but one thing about "The Homecoming" troubles me. During the sleigh ride it is obvious that they filmed the scene during the daytime when it was supposed to happen at night; perhaps they used a camera filter, but it didn't help much. That is my one criticism of the movie. Now the night effect could be done with technology if it were remade!

I think The Homecoming was perfect for the time it originally aired (December 1971), because people watching television then had close ties to the Depression. They could recall what that time was like, and what a family had to do to survive.
Today, the Depression is a period in history learned in school. It is taught in connection with WWII, and how the country grew out of a terrible economic period.
I just don't think it would work to redo it... yes, the Little House movies have redone the time period, but many people grew up reading the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I'm not 100% sure that Earl Hamner's writings (while wonderful) had the same cultural impact as LIW.
That's my two cents...

I wouldn't want to see it remade. But if it is Kathy Lee should play Olivia!

I would like to see a remake of The Homecoming. It would be good if some of cast members could be in the remake. Also they could have a Waltons Christmas Reunion movie, and the siblings could tell their children and grandchildren through flashbacks about what happen during that time.

I'd like it if they combined those ideas -have a reunion movie that reminds of the Homecoming and with lots of flashbacks to the original.

No no no no no! If it ain't broke don't fix it! Other than both parents, one grandparent, and the Baldwin sisters being different than in the series--you can't fix perfection!

Nooooo, The Homecoming is perfect just the way it is. I miss the adults from the series, but no, it's perfect the way it is.
That Little House remake by Disney stunk too! They had a bratty Laura, and a "sexed-up" Ma. (Really, long hair flying all over in the middle of the prairie, with all that work???) They looked like they bought their clothes at the local western wear shop. Jack is suddenly a "spirit dog?" I missed that in the books, where was it?
Sorry for ranting about Little House. I guess I like my perfectly-coiffed Michael Landon.

I enjoy them all for their differences. That is why another Homecoming would be refreshing plus in this day and age of soooo inappropriate shows we need it!
