The dates' overlapping is extremely unfortunate.... In the rather small world of Walton fans aware of these events, it's especially sad that it has happened.
Wonder if either Carolyn or Ray would mind changing the date.....

If the dates stand for both events, then we definitely know that Eric Scott (Ben), Jon Walmsley (Jason), Judy Norton (Mary Ellen), Mary McDonough (Erin) & Kami Cotler (Elizabeth) will not be at Carolyn's event. Also if both of the dates stand, hopefully Carolyn could get Michael Learned to attend since she missed the California reunions. It would be the icing on the cake if she could also get Richard Thomas to attend. ;D But it makes me wonder if Michael & Richard already have plans at that time since they are not going on the cruise. Could those plans be Carolyn's event? Also David Harper (Jim Bob) is not listed as going on the cruise. Carolyn did say that she already had some cast commitments! Makes me really curious about who the cast commitments are? Could any of them be Michael, Richard, David, Earl Hamner, Jr., Lynn Hamilton (I could meet her a thousand times), Hal Williams.......Carolyn knows! I cannot go on the cruise because it starts out at $1,199.00 per person excluding airfare to & from New York. I would attend Carolyn event, it is only an 8 hour drive each way there & back. Gas, hotel & food would be alot cheaper than the cruise, passport & airfare. Virginia should also be beautiful with all of the turning leaves. It was a miracle that my hubby & I was able to attend both the reunions in California a couple of weeks ago. No way could we come up with the kind of money Ray is wanting for his cruise trip just a year after the California event (especially with still having 6 kids at home). I have also met the five that are going on the cruise. I would like to see the five of them again, but that kind of money is not in my budget, I used up my mad money for the California trip & that took years to get!

As we have learned over the years, "cast commitments" don't mean much..... And, a year away ?? No way anyone would have any idea who will really attend either event.....

Could someone tell a relative newbie who Ray Castro is? I know he helped organize the event at the Wilshire Ebell theatre but does he run another fan club or something? And where is the information on the cruise? I just want to be "in the know". I have to agree that any cast commitments made a year ahead of time are likely not too reliable. Thanks!

Hey everyone- I just thought I would give you our imput as the cast goes. Ray approached us about doing a cruise a couple of months ago. We did a 3 day cruise 13 years ago and had a blast. This is a very reasonably priced one-as cruises go. If you have never done one, what a great way to start-with alot of fellow fans of your favorite show! On a side note, A few of us talked to both Vicki and Carolyn many times this year and they told us repeatedly that they were not going to do another reunion. If they are planning another one it is news to us.

A cruise would be a blast, but like many of you said $1,199.00 per person is just way out of my price range! and from what I heard, Ray had no hand in the dates being set, that was all aranged by the Cruise company and ironically they just happened to fall on the same weekend as Carolyn's But I'll be sticking with Carolyn's event for 2013 no matter what. and like foreverwaltons said, I wouldn't mind if it was just all 'secondary' cast members, as I like meeting them just as much as I do the main cast! ;D I know Angel Rhoades showed a HUGE interest in Carolyn's and was excited about coming to hers next year if her schedule allowed. Ray is just another fan from what I'm seeing, but has a lot of connections to the cast and other people in the entertainment industry, I didn't know who he was till 2011 when he came to the reunion in VA and announced that he was planning another reunion that December in New Jersey. I've inlcuded the photo he posted on Facebook with the cruise details below. RYAN-J

It would be amazing to go on a cruise with the Waltons but it is too much money as people have said. (i am not going as i will have school) but i think that Carolyns events are amazing form what i have heard so i would stick with Carolyns unless the prices go down.

When I was in LA for "The Waltons" weekend, Carolyn told me and several others that the next reunion, which she annually coordinates, will be October 19, 2013 in VA.

Carolyn said she would not be doing another California reunion, but the last I heard, she was planning a reunion in Lynchburg on October 18-19, 2013. It was even announced on the back of our programs at this year's reunion:
The cruise sounds like fun, but it's too expensive for me. I will be attending Carolyn's event.

Ray has responded to someone on Facebook with this explanation: "Yes unfortunately the dates conflict with each other. The cruise company chose that week for two reasons, 1. Picking a date after Hurricane season in the Caribbean 2. It allows the fans almost a full year for a payment plan. The price I believe is relatively inexpensive when its broken down per day with meals (approx. $120.00 per day). After learning of the date I consulted with Miss Carolyn, only to learn that the VA reunion will be on the 19th, as that was the only weekend the Kirkley hotel had available. Hope this helps clear things up." It sounds like a reasonable explanation to me, and it's unfortunate that the dates overlap. He is correct, it is relatively inexpensive as far as cruises go, and I'm sure it will be a lot of fun for those who go. It's still too expensive for this retired teacher though.

I just hope that ones who have already commited to Carolyn's don't back out and opt for Ray's now, but we shall see! If Carolyn can get Michael this next year that would be a dream come true for several on here! and Richard perhaps, would be phenomenal! seeing as how close NY is to VA, he wouldn't have to travel far.
