I would most definitely recommend the remake of The Red Badge of Courage with Richard Thomas in the starring role. Another remake Richard Thomas starred in was All Quiet on the Western Front, the World War I drama told from the point of view of a German soldier in the trenches on the Western Front.

Richard Thomas was also in "The Christmas Box," a very good Christmas movie that I usually watch every year. And he was in "Annie's Point" with Betty White a few years ago.
Also, Mary Jackson was in a "Mary Tyler Moore Show" episode once.
And I never realized that was Ellen Corby in "It's a Wonderful Life!!" I'll have to watch more closely next time. I usually watch that movie every year also.

Ellen Corby was in the 1951 version of Angels in the Outfield in which she played the part of a nun. Ronnie Claire Edwards played the wife of the candy store owner who was killed by Officer Doyle(Scott Brady)in the movie When Every Day was the Fourth of July. This was the movie in which everyone thought that the candy store owner was killed by a shell-shocked World War I hero but he actually was killed by Officer Doyle to gain access to gambling ledgers. Mary Jackson also made a guest appearance on Dennis the Menace on April 10,1960(which was Palm Sunday that year) I do not know what part she played in that episode however.

We must remember the last appearance Will Geer made was the day before Christmas Eve of 1977 when he played the part of Santa Claus in Eight is Enough.

I just Googled Ellen Corby and checked a site that had a summary biography. This lady's career was even more incredible than I realized. Spanning more than 60 years, she appeared in more than 100 films, including It's A Wonderful Life, Shane, Vertigo (which was on just last night on TCM), the original Sabrina, and Please Don't Eat the Daisies, to name just a few. She appeared in many TV western series and was awarded a Golden Boot Award in 1989. And, of course, this is in addition to the three Emmys and one Golden Globe award she received for her work on The Waltons. She also worked with Laurel and Hardy as well as Hopalong Cassidy. She was known by studio executives as a studious and conscientious worker. For that reason, they negotiated her salaries directly with her, not through an agent or lawyer. Now we know why her portrayal of Grandma Walton was so real. She lived those attributes of honesty and hard work.

It seems as if Ellen Corby is on TV somewhere all the time. I watched the original pilot episode yesterday of "Cannon," the 1971 detective drama that aired on CBS for several years. Ms. Corby had a small part in that pilot episode.

Ellen Corby is (literally) maddening as Victor Buono's mom in The Strangler. She's very Grandma-like in the William Castle shocker Macabre.

Last night I was watching an old black and white movie with Bette Davis and Olivia de Haviland - "Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte". Lo and behold at the very end when all the neighbors were gathering around the mansion waiting for Charlotte to appear - there stood Miss Mamie Baldwin talking to someone - then Grandma comes running up to join the group. Just a small part but it was neat.

I just got Michael learned's movie 'A Christmas Without Snow'. Plan to watch it after I study tonight. Has anyone seen or heard of it? It also has John Houseman as the supporting actor. Why A Christmas movie in Sept. you ask? Christmas is my favorite time of year and if I don't celebrate earlier then usual it seems too short. Besides, geez ... it has Michael learned in it!

Ralph Waite is in one of my favorite movies, COOL HAND LUKE, with Paul Newman. It's definitely not for kids, though!
