It was mentioned on the morning news out of Toronto on CFMZ FM. It's owned by the same man who owns Vision TV which has been broadcasting The Waltons quite regularly for about 20 years now. They don't broadcast the reunion movies, and, for some reason, they've never broadcast The Easter Story.
Still, it's something to look forward to each weekday.
Andy included an audio clip of Ben's 'encounter' with an angry father and older brother from The Lie. I could almost hear Ben sweating.

It’s hard to believe this show is 50 years-old! I discovered this show due to my father. He would quote the classic line from the end of the episodes: “Goodnight John-Boy!”
Then in 2004 my Dad and I were at Zeller’s and there was a metal bin of single disc DVD’s put out by TV Premiere DVD. One of them was the first episode of The Waltons, The Foundling. I purchased it and enjoyed watching the first episode and appreciated that the protagonist, John-Boy, was an artistic type as well as being a male, rather than being athletic. Eventually, my Dad bought me the first season of The Waltons for me for Christmas 2004, if I remember correctly, from Amazon. I ended up to Season Five on DVD by the time I was in my first few years of University.
I no longer have the show on DVD (if we’re being honest, I think DVD’s are passé nowadays with so much being on streaming or YouTube) but I purchased the first five seasons and most of Season six on YouTube and watch it that way now.
As a 31 year-old adult I can say that I’ve come to love the show even more than I did as a teenager. This is due to its excellent writing and due to it, quite frankly, making me want to be a better person!
I hope The Walton’s gets properly recognized on this day for its 50th Anniversary!

I wonder how it did in ratings that night?
I know they ranked 19th for the year
crazy to think it's been 50 years. AND IT'S STILL ON DAILY!
Great show with a passionate fan base.
It's weird how even though I wasn't alive when the show originally aired I get some sort of comfort watching it.
Even though times were tough, everyone always worked together and always offered a helping hand

Happy 50th birthday to the Waltons I rewatched the first episode today in honor of the anniversary and I swear, the kids, including John-Boy looked like babies. Heck, even the adults did to a certain extent 😭

I have watched every single episode of this program @ least 10 times or more each. I have to admit though, the first 5 seasons are the only ones that I really feel stayed true to the values of the show. Not only because of the cast members leaving, though that was a MAJOR part of it. But also because the passage of time seemed not to fit with their simple way of life. I think Richard Thomas was the star of this series. But my favorite character was the Reverend Fordwick. I loved John Ritter. He just had a star quality that made any part he played come to life! I did not like Elizabeth. She was always causing trouble for people, and seemed to me to be a spoiled little brat. I also did not like Jason. His character was boring and redundant. Always with the same old shtick about " his music " which was crap. Grandpa and Grandma were treasures. And Micheal Learned was a fine actress. Ike and Corabeth kept things interesting, as did the Baldwin sisters. And who could forget " Daddy " ? who worked so hard to hold it all together. I noticed JohnBoy changed a whole lot by the 5th season. He took on a hardened effect that did not suit him. However, his replacement was a mess! That guy couldn't even act. Watching him was about as interesting as watching paint dry. I did watch the remaining seasons. Out of curiosity mostly. But I hated them.

Some of you were there tuning in on Day 1 and I was wondering what your thoughts were after that first show aired. Did you think that the show would be so successful and air for 9 seasons? Could you have imagined that a show about a poor family during the depression would survive through 9 seasons? Even after that the show, being watched by kids my age in 2023. It is pretty amazing in my opinion.

I was 9 years old, so I can't say for sure what I was thinking, but I suspect that as someone who was stuck living in an apartment in the city (albeit only part time) and not being very happy about it, I bet this is what I was thinking: If being "poor" meant you could 1) live in the country; 2) live in a HOUSE (not an apartment); 3) walk to school barefoot; 4) have a dog; 5) have farm animals; and 6) eat fresh food from the garden, then SIGN ME UP!!! 😊

Miss Patricia Anne, I love that thinking and it is a perfect way of thinking for a 9 year old. I bet those Walton kids were larger than life for you. Heck, when I started watching back this past Summer I thought how cool it would be to have Elizabeth as a friend and attend The Waltons Mountain School with Miss Hunter as my teacher.
Molly, that is such an awesome promo ad and it tells of the show perfectly.

And my brother was a couple of weeks old. I remember the first episode about the foundling girl very well.

I also did not like Jason. His character was boring and redundant. Jason was my least-favourite character. He was the most un-Walton Walton in the family. He could play the guitar and piano and a passable recorder, but that boy simply could not dance.
And don't get me started on his pants. I'll never know why he chose to wear them around his waist instead of around his hips where they should have been worn.

I guess it’s because I’m a musician, but Jason is my favorite of the Walton kids, followed closely by Mary Ellen and Erin. My least favorite of the kids is a close race between John Boy and Ben.

I am not sure really who my least favorite of the Walton kids is. Each episode I guess I could choose a different one other than maybe Elizabeth who I always thought was great.
