Not only did we have a Baskin-Robins outlet in a downtown mall here (it was closed and a new outlet opened a bus ride away on a street we call 'Junk Food Alley' on which a guy stole a private plane from Oshawa and landed it on Lansdown Street a few years ago)... but I digress. Not only did we have an outlet two blocks away from where I live, we had the manufacturing plant even closer than that.
I loved their black cherry.

I love how Kami Cotler herself replied and corrected the story.
To me, a Waltons ice cream flavor should have tasted like the Recipe.

^ I'm surprised they didn't think of apple sauce cake flavour.

Didn't they make blackberry ice cream from the berries they picked on Martha Corinne's farm?

I LOVE ice cream!! My Mom taught me this chant when I was a child: “I scream - you scream - we ALL scream for ice cream!!” Shamelessly, I taught my kids the exact same mini song! WHY we sang that song totally eludes me, but I guess it was a judgement on how ice cream is embraced by everyone!
It would have been so great if the Waltons’ had their own flavor! Many people have heard about “… beautiful downtown Burbank “ from Johnny Carson on “The Tonight Show”. For many years, the main corporate offices of Baskin-Robbins were located in Burbank, about 10 minutes from Warner Brothers Studios where the Waltons were filmed and about 5 minutes from my high school.
Luckily, right across the street from BR Corporate Office is, I think, the ONLY drive thru BR ice cream store. It is still there! You can order most of the yummy things but complicated orders like a banana split must be ordered inside the store.
I always thought I would LOVE to be an ice cream flavor tester. But, be careful what you wish for! The husband of one of my girlfriends was exactly that. He worked in the Burbank office and when there was a new flavor that needed to be chosen, all the executives who had children, would take the flavor home and their kids would vote! When I found out they got free ice cream ALL the time, I voiced my envy. Her reply shocked me: “ You would think that it is a dream come true for my kids. But, they now HATE ice cream! They keep complaining: “Do we have to eat ice cream AGAIN?!?”
I guess there is a great deal of truth to the old adage: “Variety is the spice of life!” But, I still think I wouldn’t mind my tastebuds being challenged weekly with some delicious ice cream. At least, if I could say tasting ice cream is my job - my extra pounds could be chalked up to “professional research.” Wouldn’t we all like to be able to use that excuse?!?

Baskin-Robbins is famous for its 31 flavours. In fact, the number 31 is incorporated into its logo.

Easton is very correct about the number 31 being part of the Baskin-Robbins logo. They just drew a line on the left side of the 3 to make it a “B” and used the 1 as the first stroke of the “R”. For many years, for those hard core ice cream fanatics ( I will gladly admit to being a bonafide member of THAT group!) if you went into any Baskin-Robbins store in a month that had 31 days, you could get one scoop of ice cream for free if you went into the store on that 31st day. Since the pandemic I think they don’t offer that any more. But it sure was something we all looked forward to at the end of those months!

^ I don't think we ever had that 'free scoop' deal up here in Canada. It's been over 30 years since I've had Baskin-Robbins ice cream. There's a bus stop right outside their door on Lansdowne, but I'm not so sure it's worth the $5 round trip. Too bad they don't package it for the grocery store.

Easton, I am surprised that Baskin-Robbins does not export its product to Canada, but almost all the grocery stores in California offer pints of Baskin Robbins in their ice cream aisle. There surely are NOT all 31 flavors, but I haven’t been in any food market lately that doesn’t offer at least 5-10 different BR flavors - on a rotating basis. They surely aren’t cheap, but worth the splurge sometimes.
As I have mentioned, my love of ice cream is paramount in my life! But, the cost of gas in LA is now almost $7 a gallon, so I must bid adieu to my delicious guilty pleasure. Plus, perhaps more walking, less driving, may help trim the old waistline that my BR indulgence has caused to spread!
No more talk of ice cream, I promise - my taste buds can’t stand it!!

And here I was...ordering vanilla. 🤷 Once when I was in grammar school, I had a stomach ache and they called my grandmother because my mother wasn't home. My grandmother picked me up at school and took me to Baskin Robbins of all places. I got a vanilla shake and it did make my stomach ache go away. Years later I figured out I must have had some type of gastritis and the shake soothed it. My sister had the same malady in 4th grade and had to go on a prescription antacid. Having nuns for teachers back then could do that to you. We each had a winner.

We make it here and there are shops like Dairy Queen. I've just never seen it sold in tubs. We have our own brand which is more popular than Baskin-Robbins: Chapmans

I’ve never really liked Baskin Robbins tbh - to me, it has a faint chemical/processed taste to it. I live in New England and we have many locally-owned ice cream stands that make their own ice cream, so we’re spoiled. There’s some study that says that our region eats more ice cream per capita than any other area of the US. But I’m not sure how proud we should be of that lol - not the healthiest food in the world. But I love it. There’s a company called Graeter’s from Ohio and their ice cream is some of the best I’ve ever tasted. They ship nationwide, but we can also find a small selection at some small markets in the northeast. Tillamook has become available here in the past five years and I think it’s one of the best ice cream brands you can get in the supermarket.

Come to think of it...the best ice cream I e had is the ice cream at a local dairy farm. They make it themselves and it's wonderful. Much better than anything you can get in the supermarket -- or Baskin Robbins.

My aunt made the best home made strawberry ice cream. They had cows, so the cream was not store bought. I think the strawberries grew on their farm.
