The first picture is from The Ring, Season 3. Mary Ellen wore this dress to the dance. The second picture is from The Burnout, Season 4. Erin is admiring herself wearing the dress. It looks like the same dress to me. So, why was Erin so protective of a dress that was a hand-me-down from Mary Ellen? I thought about this while watching The Ring on INSP today. I’m always on the lookout for the other dress, the one Audrey wore to the dance, which was worn by at least 3 other women in other episodes. Now I have another dress to look for.

Looks like it is. Is that the dress ME wanted to trade her catchers mitt for in the first season?

No, same color but different dress.

Did Erin wear the dress when she eloped with Chad? It looks like it could be the same dress, but it’s hard to say with that sweater covering it up. If so, that dress seemed to bring a lot of bad luck - a lost ring, a house fire, and a failed elopement.

It seems as if "The Waltons" wardrobe got a lot of mileage!

In first-run broadcasts, that dress might reappear months or even years later. Most people would not recognise it. With syndication and perpetual reruns, that dress might appear 3 times in a month or so.
Back then, it was safe to recycle clothing.

It also made it more realistic for the times.

Yes, it's the same dress that "travels" from episode to episode! I noticed that too when I was rewatching the show. Well, nothing surprising - small budgets (you can notice it right away), so they saved money on costumes and props. In fact, many old movies are full of similar bloopers. Btw, speaking of dresses - I’d like to give a shoutout to www.bellabarnett.com/collections/mini-dresses. This store is just something, ladies. I’m addicted to going through their line of dresses several times a day. Purchased about 5 of them already. Most importantly, I’ve yet to see anyone else wearing these same dresses! Although now I guess the secret’s out .

Did it get washed between the different actors wearing it or did they wear it with everyone's stank still in it?

^ To even think that the wardrobe department wouldn't clean everything after each use is hard to imagine. Not only would the have the actors' "stank" in them, they would also have remnants of makeup. In other words, it's the job of the wardrobe department to make sure everything is clean for the next wearer, whether they are regular cast members or extras.

However, I found a number of other sites concerning this issue, and it's a completely different situation than The Waltons.
These 'historic' costumes are worn by the same actor. Actors do not share someone else's 'stank'.
Completely different from the Walton's wardrobe department which probably is shared not only by the actors, but actors from other productions as well.

Erin also wears Mary Ellen's blue church dress after she gets married.
