My favorite continuity problem was how the family would continue to retrieve precious heirlooms from the attic after the fire. Unless they had a hidden room they had been storing things in...... haha darn! I never noticed that. spoiler! LOL I wanted Livvy to keep that perm for at least a few months!!!! I want magic hair like that!

I've just been watching reruns of season 6 on the True Entertainment channel in the UK. In the episode 'The Seashore' there is reference to the evacuation of Dunkirk in 1940. In the following episode 'The Volunteer' it is 1939 again. This could just be a case of stories told out of chronological order, except that in both episodes Mary Ellen is pregnant. In fact, she announced her pregnancy at the end of season 5, a few episodes after John Boy had reported on the Hindenburg disaster of 1937, so it must have been the longest pregnancy in history!

Yeah, that season 5 jump of 3 years is a doozy. It makes me wonder if John Boy ever graduated college. But if it was 1939/40, I guess he would have. Was he still going when he started publishing his newspaper? You know, a mention of Star Trek earlier in this thread made me think of the following. There are actual books written by fans of Star Trek that are devoted to pointing out things like this. They are called The Nitpickers Guide to Star Trek.

Earl never graduated college because he was drafted in his Sophomore year in 1943 so that is probably why we never saw John Boy graduate from Boatwright

Earl Hamner did eventually graduate from college, but not until after the war. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati. From thewaltons.com"Upon graduation from Schuyler High School, Hamner entered the University of Richmond on a scholarship. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 and received training in the demolition of land mines. On the battlefield, such an occupation has a life expectancy of thirty to forty seconds for the demolisher as well as those around him. Fortunately, the Army reconsidered and assigned Earl to a Quartermaster Corps unit in Paris where he served without demolishing himself or any of his fellow soldiers. While Earl never became a boulevardier he did learn how to get from Opera to Auberville on the Metro and how to order ouefs et jambon in a French restaurant.
Upon his return to as civilian life Hamner worked at radio station WMBG in Richmond. He furthered his education at Northwestern University and graduated from the University of Cincinnati."

That's very interesting. In one of the later episodes, someone asks John-Boy (played by Robert Wightman) to write an article on landmines and includes the death of a young boy who inadvertently steps on one (I think this occurs in France). I wonder if that was a nod to Earl's training in demolition work.

Hi Kitti and welcome to the forum. There was a similar thread started today with some of the same questions. It is called Missing characters. Unfortunately you will not find many answers there or anywhere else, because as far as I know, there is no one who can really give an explanation. I assume Erin's marriage ended in divorce. Mary Ellen apparently was able to have more children in spite of being told in an earlier movie that she couldn't. I have no idea what happened to John Curtis, and Virginia was actually Ben's little girl, not Jim Bob's. I don't know how she died. Those are good questions. Sorry I don't have better answers.

Bunions...the children kept stepping on her bunions! She couldn't take it anymore...
I apologize...I just couldn't resist...Olivia came down with TB. She went to Arizona to live because the hot weather was better for her health.
Please don't let me scare you away or make you mad, I was just joking around.
