I think I would've done well during that time period. I can cook, pretty much a clean and organizational freak, I would've enjoyed taking care of the animals. I'm a decent gardener. I'm good at sewing by hand, I like to paint and I'm not afraid to get dirty doing big projects. I love to fish. The only thing I couldn't handle back then was the male chauvinism and having to fight for opportunities to have a career.

Each member of the Walton family had skills that enabled the whole group to survive the Depression. Even the youngest kids had chores to perform. Do any of you have skills or abilities which would have allowed you to be a useful member of the clan? I'm afraid I would have been sent packing. Yes! I was raised milking cows by hand, slopping pigs and picking eggs. Also our form of entertainment was riding horseback and also competing in 4H and horse shows. I can shoot and we all had to drive tractor and grain trucks from the field to the elevator. I would love to have a family like that!

To be honest, it would be too much work-they make it look real nice and simple on the show, but they worked their butts off and STILL didn't have any money.
If I have to work that hard, I want money to show for it.
Also, having no privacy would be awful.

I can also shoot a bow and arrow. That must be good for....something! I am no Catnis (Hunger Games) but I can hit a target.

Pro's and Cons: Pro's: Sometimes I long for simpler times. When everything wasn't so tied up with computers and cell phones. Of course, without computers I couldn't interact with all of you, unless we were penpals. Cons: I'm not sure I could have stood it without air conditioning in the summer. I would not have liked the racism and sexism of the time. If I had been born back then, perhaps I would not have questioned it but I think I came to the realization on my own that I didn't approve of bigotry.

I love the show, the family values and the mountain ways and I even say I church with the Waltons. But some of the baptist ways well well intentioned and some ways right and some ways not were not right for me. I guess I was like John Walton, maybe a little Yancey Tucker, Grandpa, Ike Godsey and some of John Boy Ben and Jason in me. I would describe a little of thse seven men in me or men around and close to me. AND that's just the men lol

If I have to work that hard, I want money to show for it. Also, having no privacy would be awful. There's alot of personal satisfaction to working hard. Being physically tired at the end of the day feels GOOD! Plus they lived good and didn't know any different, so were happy.

I sort of live like the Walton's anyway. I have no air conditioning, heat with a wood stove, so I chainsaw and split wood, however I also buy firewood, but have to split it. I have a big garden and freeze and can veggies. Make my own jams, pickles, relish, spaghetti sauce and chicken broth. Clean, cook, I can sew a bit. Have chickens for the eggs and sheep for lamb every once in a while. However still have TV, VCR, computer, etc. I would love to live on a farm and be self sufficient, and live off the land. Hard to do and have a full time job.

I grew up on a farm...cows, pigs, chickens, etc. so I know all about that. I also grew up cutting firewood, splitting it and gathering kindling. I know how to put in a garden, can vegetables & fruit, make jellies, jams, and pickles. Dry fruit to put up for pies and such plus dry/put up seed for next years crop. In one episode Ben had rabbits...I have also raised rabbits. I can tar a roof, paint, do carpentry work (my daddy was a carpenter).
I know how to shoot a gun, use a knife, fish and cook. I can sew/mend by hand and on a sewing machine. I grew up doing quilting, crocheting, knitting, embroidery and cross stitch. I know how to make candles, use an old laundry wash board, churn butter, gather bamboo to make cane fishing poles, iron clothes, make beds and other such work.
I have even helped out with a portable sawmill. Back in 2000, we bought a truckload of poplar tree logs, we also had a lot of cedar logs that my husband had acquired from helping people clean up after storm damage. We had a guy come with a portable saw mill and I loaded the logs by hand with a cant hook onto the sawmill. I removed the boards as he sawed them, then I stacked them up in the barn with stackers in between the stacks so air could circulate to help dry the boards plus I had to "sweep" the sawdust off each and every board. The man was really impressed with how I worked. I told him that was how I was raised. It took a week to cut all of the wood. We stored it for a year while we built our house with our own hands. We used the poplar wood for walls in our house, the cedar for our bedroom ceiling, trim work and our porch posts. We also used salvaged pine tongue and groove for our ceilings.

Wow-you guys are quite impressive! Most of you are more qualified to be Waltons than they were themselves!

I definitely could live with them because I live in a small hose with 9 people, it's really easy. I could not live with a all amount of people in a house
