In the end for me it doesn't really matter. At the Reunions I rarely spend time in my room. Since the Reunions usually are just for two days, I find myself spending most of my time with my friends. I just use my room for sleeping and storing my stuff. By the way The Kirkley is a nice hotel and I've always liked the rooms that I've had at the group rate.

Well, Joe and I finally decided that we can afford to attend this year. I need to call to make reservations tomorrow morning. I sure hope there are still rooms available. I am not worried about the discount rooms because I know waiting this long I will have to pay the higher price.

Hello, I wanted to update people on hotel reservations for the reunion. I've been leaving messages at the hotel for the past week. Not one was returned. Very unprofessional. I called again today and the manager wouldn't come over to the phone, the receptionist had to go and speak while I was on hold. She came back and said no exceptions. The rate is $133/ per night plus tax.
I had no idea I had to book months and months prior to receiving the fan club material about the reunion.
It will be my first fan club reunion and I will not be able to stay at the same hotel.
So, now I'm scrambling to find accommodation not too far away.
Holiday Inn across the street from the Kirley is quoting $150/night before tax as their best rate. Real estate prices have crashed, but looks like hotel rates remain firm.
If anyone finds another hotel at a good rate, would you let us know? thanks.

Unfortunately with most any events that take place, it is best to take the initiative and purchase or reserve anything involved like hotels, event tickets, airline reservations, etc. a good deal in advance, taking into consideration that there will most likely be many many other people who will be doing the exact same in order to ensure that they get all their ducks in a row in an orderly fashion before that event occurs. This is a procedure that I have followed for many years because, if it is an event that I realy want to participate, I want to make darn sure that I have done my utmost to have my plans all set well in advance of when the event occurs.

I wish i could be with all of you and go to the reunion So do we. It would be great, but you know this isn't the last reunion. There are always future reunions and future years. Hopefully, you'll be able to come to at least one of those. In the meanwhile, it's great for all of us just being able to get to know one another and talk Waltons as much as we want.

Well, of course the room matters little at events such as this.... and I was not at all intimating there was anything wrong with the Kirkley -- just trying to give those who have to pay more a little boost in spirits! There are times, however, when buying discount versus full price can make quite a difference to your comfort and will matter to you. When you use one of the expediters (e.g., expedia, orbitz, and such websites) there is a greater possibility that your room will be one the hotel considers not its most desirable -- close to an ice machine in the hall (or utility closet, kitchen, etc.), dumpsters right outside your window, close to lobby noises, on list to be painted next, noisy AC on list for servicing soon, too recently fumigated and reeking of bug spray.... Naturally, full-paying guests will be given the better rooms. Sometimes, if a company utilizes a hotel throughout the year and negotiates a high number of room nights for a lower price, such "discrimination" does not happen, but it takes careful, constant diligence to be sure it does not happen -- part of my job for about 25 of my 45 working years.

Is there anyone else still without a room for the reunion in Lynchburg? I called the Holiday Inn across the street. Their posted best rate is $150 before taxes, but I asked about a group discount. I was told to call back and track down the sales manager on Monday (8/12). There needs to be a block of a minimum of 10 rooms. So, I am one. I need 9 more. Contact me by message or post. I will call tomorrow anyway and imply that I have 10 people needing rooms and see what's the best rate he can do. Will update you.

Perhaps some of the cast members that committed to the Cruise will now attend the Lynchburg Reunion? It would be nice but I understand that plans have been made already. Just hoping...... I do look forward to meeting the cast that is attending and of course other Walton's fans!

Me either. It will be good seeing many of my friends who are returning for another fun filled weekend as well as making new friends. I'm also looking forward to seeing the already announced guests who just coincidentally attended last year's reunion in LA.
