Awesome, I remember those cigarette machines. They were perfect for sneaking cigarettes! I think they cost something like $3.50 a pack then. I haven't bought cigarettes for almost 7 months now, ( I quit ), but I was paying $10.00 a pack just before I quit. I used to take any change around the house, and buy the smokes in the machine with that money...I think I owe my parents about a gazillion dollars!

When I was 17, there was a BAR that was open when we were on our way to school...We stopped in, and not only got cigs out the machine, but also loaded up on small bags of chips and some pop....
To this day, I'll never understand why a BAR was open at 7:30 a.m. WITH a couple of old dudes sitting around drinking that early...

JerJet, their libraries I believe.
Just on the lighter side everyone, reading about smoking I am so glad I never started smoking. But I'm darned if I know where the money I must've saved over the years not buying them has gone.

Going through Grand Central Station in the morning (7:30-8am), I always saw several "gents" at the stand-up bar right on the concourse!!! Ick. And, sad. Oh -- re cigarette machines -- in my area, they are banned, not sure if it's county or state legislation..... What about your area, anyone ??

We used to have the machines here in California, but no more. The discount price for cigs were 25 cents a pack, while the machine cost was 75 cents a pack when I was in high school.
Many minors used the ease of purchase from the machine, yet most small stores would sell smokes and booze to a minor.

If teenagers want to do something-they are gonna do it. You cant really stop them.
Unless you are around them 24-7. If they arent aroud ya, and they want to do something, they will do it.
Anyway,Remember In "The Homecoming", when Olivia is like,
" What are you doing in your bedroom with the door locked ?"
In my opinion, that aint the way to go about parenting.

I feel the same way about gun control. If someone wants to do something criminal....they will find a way. They want to restrict & punish the law abiding citizens. No matter what laws they pass, you will always have people who will break them.

All the gun control legislation in the world isn't going to keep guns out of the hands of criminals. In the vast majority of crimes in which a gun is involved the gun was obtained illegally. The Sandy Hook massacre is a good example. The shooter tried to buy guns but was turned down. That shows that the laws we already have work. What we need to do is make it easier to get the dangerously mentally ill of the streets. before they can massacre innocent people.
That being said I agree with banning military style assault weapons. No one needs to own such weapons.

I just watched that episode again. I felt bad for John Boy. I loved when he told her off because Livy was being unreasonable.
It didnt really have to do with the act of dancing-Livy had let Mary Ellen go to a COLLEGE DANCE a couple of episodes earlier.
She should have been yelling about THAT situation !
Lets face it-John Boy was just treated differently. Sometimes he got breaks because of it-sometimes he got penalized for it.
That Livy blowup was all about her fear of her kids leaving.

I caught bits and pieces of a movie on tv yesterday -- Footloose, made in 1984. Story of a "city-boy" (Kevin Bacon) who moved to a small town where locals didn't permit dancing or rock'n'roll.... A pastor played a bit part in this......
The timing of this airing was certainly appropriate for this thread !!
