I rewatched The Conflict today, it doesn't lose quality with rewatches ;D John-Boy's passionate argument with Zebulon that they should find a non-violent solution is amazing! It's gotta be up there with his pulling the book out of the fire. Also, Ralph Waite must have been very strong! When John-Boy is shot, John picks him up in his arms and carries him easily to the truck! I always thought John-Boy was bigger than him too.

I love when the girls get chased into the tree by the pigs. In general, I enjoyed the episodes that got the entire family away from the house. I enjoyed the carnivals, the picnics, and the apple picking as well as important issue driven episodes like The Conflict. That aspect seemed to be missing toward the end of the series' run.

Heh it's interesting you should say that because, while I did love the episode and it is amongst my favourites, the one problem I had with it was that I didn't think there were enough scenes in the house! I found it missed it a little, oddly

"The Conflict" is one of my faves!
You wanna see strength? I could absolutely throw Richard over my shoulder and take off with him LOL. LOL. Sorry.

The scenes away from the house show there is life away from the house. The house and the mountain are center of course, but its fun and interesting to see them get away once in awhile. And the Conflict was about the Walton family and the mountain. Helping the family thatswhat the Waltons did. waltonsportwriter. It's too bad John Boy got shot in this episode. Glad he wasn't hurt worse

When John Boy was shot that to me was one of the most shocking of all scenes. I still remember watching it the first time and being blown away that happened. I also loved how Grandpa ran to him hollering Johnny.

I honestly did not like this episode at all. John Boy was way too self righteous for my taste and the whole show just seemed preachy.

John Boy was way too self righteous for my taste and the whole show just seemed preachy. Interesting, could you explain your point of view a little bit more? What did you think it was too preachy in regards to? I feel, through John-Boy, there was the suggestion that you should always try and find a peaceful alternative before turning to violence, and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Or do you mean the whole "the government are bad for doing this" thing? I seem to recall that it is actually based on a true story (not of the Hamners, but another family) so I can see why it's in there.

No problem a r15.. I just think this particular episode highlighted the writers treating Richard Thomas as the star versus writing John boy as a seventeen year old junior in high school. He was way too vocal and the whole tone of the episode did not appeal to me. I can appreciate your enthusiasm...I guess I am not big on the shows with conflict..lol

And, yes, sometimes it did seem that too much "play" was given to John Boy..... Although I really hadn't thought of it before, The Conflict is a good example of that.....

I never have a problem with John-Boy being used that way myself, at least not usually.

Hey, the vast majority of fans agree with you! As I have grown older I like the character more. Look forward to continued dialogue on other posts!

Richard was the lead. It was his show.
Just my opinion , and I dont mean anything bad about it, but it has always surprised me that some fans dont like John-boy. He was the show in my book.

The Conflict was one of my favorites too! I thought it was good to see them venture away from home once in a while.

I liked the episode. One reason is because we get to meet Martha Corinne, one of my favorite characters. Beulah Bondi was wonderful in the part. I love that she was brought back for another episode, The Pony Cart.
