Was the judge drunk or did he fall asleep at the wheel when he crashed his car into the building?

ok they just said, "he had been drinking but not enough to get himself arrested." What? If you crash your car into a building then it is enough to get arrested.

We have a campaign running right now that says buzzed driving is drunk driving. I guess some people make excuses.

I thought drinking and driving was enough to get one arrested?

Carol, it depends on the alcohol level in your blood. Most of us can get by on a couple of drinks and be okay. It's the ones that keep on drinking...and get that buzz..they're above the legal limit for sure.
This fact ought to help discourage people from drinking and driving as well....most DUI's wet their pants and you wear them home the next day when you bond out.

"I thought drinking and driving was enough to get one arrested? " Not if Ep is your sheriff. He just gave the judge some coffee and sent the judge home.

Carol, it depends on the alcohol level in your blood. Most of us can get by on a couple of drinks and be okay.. Tell that to my husband who was charged with drunk driving after only having 2 beers and a blood alcohol level of 0.02. on two separate breathalizers. 0.08 is the legal limit here in Maryland. He was well below the limit. Because he has had both knees and both hips replaced he cannot stand on one leg and because he couldn't stand with one leg off the ground for 20 seconds he failed the field sobriety test and the cop concluded he was drunk. He is going to court in September. Our lawyer is fighting to have it thrown out because once the breathalizer showed him to be well below the limit the field test shouldn't have even been conducted.

I believe the laws were a little different back in the old days. I really don't remember anyone I knew being arrested until sometime in the 70's for being drunk and driving.. Seems like the police let it slide.

In the 80's we could drink and drive. Then it went to only the driver could not be drinking, but the others in the car could have an open container. THen nobody could be drinking in the car.

Here in Alabama you had to wear shoes to drive. You could not be barefoot. This did not change until the early 1970's! I remember my Mom being so happy that she could finally drive barefoot! The things you remember from childhood! LOL!

It's said to be one pint of normal-strength beer, or two shorts (i.e. a double), or two pub glasses of wine, to put anyone safely just under the legal level. Of course anything more depends on build, sex, and how used to alcohol you are. That's the usual advice in the UK. The most affected would be a thin woman unused to alcohol; the least would be a fat bloke who drinks a lot.

Back then it wasn't uncommon for people to drive drunk by today's standers unless you were falling down drunk the sheriff probably wouldn't have done anything about it and if you were then would just take you down to the jail and let you sleep it off then give you a ride to where your car was and let you go and nothing official done to you.

Carol, an officer can tell if a person is under the influence just by looking at the person and observing their actions and speech. They also often do the eye-pencil test which sober people will pass. If he blew a .02, then it's really strange that he got arrested. The judge will throw this case out for sure. Doesn't matter if he couldn't do the field sobriety test or not, if he only blew .02, he'll be fine. The affect alcohol has on us can be influenced by our fatigue levels and what we ate recently. Keep us posted on his court case. I honestly can't see the judge supporting this charge.

I get scared to drink one beer and drive. What are you supposed to do when you've had too much to drink and dont have enough for cabfare? Then you have to get your car later. Of course any of it is better than drunk driving but I want to drive with a person that can drive safely or drink at home

My relatives in Italy said that Italian drinking laws are really strict now. You can still drink liquor at any age, but now you cannot drink and drive anymore. You cannot drink anything, ZERO tolerance. If you get caught, they fine you, take your license away, and you are unable to drink for a full year. Even though you are not driving, you still cannot drink. They do random tests to see if you have had anything to drink. They went from no law to extreme law!
