Maybe this has been discussed before, but did anybody notice that in the Easter Story, Livy and JB talk about him going to the University of Virgina?
The same people play the same roles in the same buildings when JB goes to Boat-wright.

Perhaps, in the world of The Waltons, Boatwright University is sometimes called The University of Virginia?

I just re-watched the scene and Livy does call it UOV. Wonder why they changed it to Boatwright.

I noticed that as well. When John-Boy arrives at Boatwright, he tells the lady at the desk that he had been there before and spoken with her when he picked up a catalog. The observant viewer is sitting there thinking, "No, that was at UV."

I believe either the founder or the first President of the University of Richmond was named Boatwright. That is the reason why Boatwright is used to describe what is the Univerity of Richmond

Good to know.
I asked. I asked why they started sending JB to UOV and then called it Boatwright

Maybe during the time John-Boy attended the school, its name was simply changed. Many years ago I, myself, attended a college which underwent three different name changes, the first was before I attended the school, the second was under which I attended and then many years later there was a thord which is its current name. It was the board's and state's decision for the name change. Of course, I much prefer the name under which I had attended the school.

That's so interesting you would start this discussion. I noticed it myself very recently for the first time. While I don't know the answer, I do know that the University of Virginia has never had a name change. UVA has been the name of the university since the time of Thomas Jefferson who founded, designed, and staffed the school.

Nope. Same staff, same building etc.. just the name change I didn't mean the set or the use of the same actors -- I was referring to the scripts..... They could be talking about his attending Univ of Va, even applying and visiting it, and then later he could attend Boatwright because he'd gotten the scholarship..... Most people apply to at least three schools.

He did visit UOV in The Easter Story and it is the same school that they call Boatwright in the Thanksgiving story, the Bequest and all the others..

I believe fictional Boatwright College in Westham, Virginia was inspired by Boatwright Library on the campus of now named University of Richmond; where Earl Hamner actually attended college before being drafted into the Army during WWII.
