Why did Cora Beth call him that? I know she liked to act all prim and proper, but that was a bit much...😄

I could be a smarty pants and say 'it was in the scripts', but it was just something she always did. There were a few times when she called him 'Ike', but they were very serious times when she was really telling him how much she really loved him.
There might be an explanation somewhere here, but I think it was just her character.
I know that, when I was a kid in the 50s, it was a sign of respect to call my elders 'Mister' or 'Missus' or 'Miss'. There was no 'Ms' back then. Maybe Corabeth called him Mr. Godsey simply out of respect.

I found it rather endearing it was just Corabeth's way. [br I thought it was sweet and endearing, too. My parents have their own special names for each other (nice ones) and some of the others married couples in church do too. I like corabeth.

I loved Cora Beth! I just found it odd to be so formal with your own husband...😄

When Corabeth first met him, she called him Mr. Godsey. If you recall, she was very uncomfortable about marrying him in the beginning. Perhaps it was due to her level of discomfort in the beginning and over time she just became used to calling him that.

Why did Cora Beth call him that? I know she liked to act all prim and proper, but that was a bit much...😄 She never really wanted to marry him, felt uncomfortable with him (and shouldn't have married him) and it was a way of keeping it formal. She also parentified that poor child she adopted and made HER be the mother to Corabeth. Disgusting.

That was Cora Beth's character she was not only prim and prissy but a drama queen too.

This thread gave me a good laugh because it reminded me of the scene when she came back to the house crying her eyes out because he had asked her to marry him and she said yes.

^ That scene is a victim of editing for commercial space on the VisionTV broadcasts of that episode.
