Mine was in the Nurse when the are saying goodnight and Erin screams because she finds a big fat cricket in her bed. She thought it was Jim Bob that put it in her bed but turns out is was Grandpa. He just laughs and laughs at her.

I've always liked this one from Season 1, 'The Boy from the CCC', between Elizabeth and John-Boy:
- John-Boy? -Yes honey? - Do flowers talk? - I don't know Elizabeth, why? - I kissed a hollyhock today, I thought I heard something whisper. What do you think? - I think if we learnt to listen we could hear all kinds of miracles. - Goodnight, John-Boy. - Goodnight.

The Gift
Daddy: You're getting to Sound real good Jason
Jason: Thank you daddy, good night daddy, goodnight mama.
Mama: Goodnight Jason
Erin: It sounds like Walton's Mountain would sound if it could sing. Goodnight Jason.
Jason: Goodnight Erin.

John Boy's last episode..his farewell on season five ,The Achievement. There is an embrace between Richard Thomas and Ralph Waite as they exchange their goodbyes that is so genuine it required no words to be spoken. It moves the earth. That scene between them is probably my favorite on the entire show. Grandpa saying to him,'Don’t forget your way home' is also extremely powerful.
As he sits out front alone listening to the house say their goodnights to one another he says 'Goodnight everybody,I love you.' Highly affecting.

There are so many, it’s hard to choose just one. Here’s a favorite:
Season 1 “The Foundling”
Ben: John Boy, you awake? John-Boy: What you want, Ben? Ben: Are you going to marry Marcia Woolery? John-Boy: You want me to? Ben: She makes good gingerbread. John-Boy: Uh huh. Well I'll think about it. Goodnight now. Ben: Goodnight.
Here’s another: Season 1 “The Courtship”
Ben: John-Boy, what happens if you get married to a girl and find out you don't like her? John-Boy: Better make sure you love her before you get married, Ben. Ben: Yeah but maybe there's things you might not know about her, that maybe she sleeps with her Teddy Bear or snores or wears socks to bed. John-Boy: If you really love her you'll put up with such things, Ben. Ben: Yuck. John-Boy: Goodnight, Ben. Ben: Goodnight, John-Boy.
This one is unique because it’s only one line: Season 9 “The Outrage”
John: Good night Mr. President.

This thread reminded me of one of my favorite Geico commercials.

I know this is slightly off topic. Here in the UK there was a show called The Two Ronnies this is how their show ended.

This would have made an excellent series finale.

My favorite goodnights are from the later seasons, the first one is the sisters saying goodnight to their brothers after the brothers had left to go to war. Also the one that Brenda liked Goodnight Mr.President. In the episode The Last 10 Days, instead of the usual goodnights, they all said a Christmas Carols. This one is When Grandma was in the hospital, and Grandpa sit on a bench, and Mary Ellen opened the blinds in Grandma room, and Grandpa said goodnight to Esther, I thought that was so poignant. In the third Waltons movie after the show had ended, instead of saying their regular goodnights they sung songs.

I have many favorites but the humorous ones stand out for me. My favorite was when Jason thought he had a medical issue and instead found out he was sleeping on his harmonica.
