I agree with 100 % drewsauntie! no one can replace Richard he IS John-boy. But Richard said he would play the part of Daddy or Grandpa if they did it again, so it might be something I would watch. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Too cool! I've seen all 3 of the HSM films & I agree, Zac could definitly pull off being the 'new' John-Boy. ;D RYAN J.

I've never heard of Zac Efron, but he does look somewhat like Richard looked at that age. It would be interesting if we could put together a cast for a Waltons movie of young actors/actresses from today to play the children and of course who would play John,Olivia,Grandma,Grandpa, the Godseys, the Baldwin ladies, Yancy, and others. In our hearts though,we know the original cast could NEVER be replaced.

I never have heard of Zac Efron but I guess I'm a little past the age for "High School Musical". There are some old time celebrities I've heard my parents mention I've never heard of,though I know who most of them are/were being a nostalgia buff. Probably more a generational thing than anything else as I am old enough to remember when "The Waltons" were originally on CBS.

I'm surprised!. I remembered Hallmark had an interviewed with Richard Thomas couple years ago when he was making a tv movie called "Annie" that he was hoping that someone would remake "The Waltons" and he would love to play either John Sr or Grandpa.

I don't think Zac looks anything like John Boy. He's too pretty and he actually looks like that guy that walked up to Mary Ellen that day she was on the way home from school and she stopped to wade in the pond. He was some college student that was in the area to hunt or something, and he was going to stop by the Walton's house the next day. I don't recall which episode that was, but that guy in the pond was a pretty boy too...and I mean very handsome!
I would love to see a Walton's remake, IF they use the same house. Different characters would be okay, but with the same names and the same house. Change the house and the whole idea goes in the john!
I have never heard of Zac either.

I agree with all of you, Zac Efron just doesn't have that fresh down-home appeal to his face... he's too polished looking. I can't help from thinking of Zac as the basketball playing Troy from High School Musical. Zac is quite marked as the Troy character - as Richard Thomas is John Boy. I think a non-celebrity would be best. Was Richard Thomas well known when he was cast as John Boy? ----------------------------------------- It's a Wonderful Christmas Movieitsawonderfulmovie.blogspot.com/

I stand corrected. I was reading a magazine tonight and saw Zac Efron in it...along with an article. I know who he is. I just didn't recognize the photo that was posted in this thread.

Earlier here someone posted that a movie would be fine if they used the same house. I agree it would have to be the EXACT SAME looking setting with the EXACT SAME characters. I don't think it is possible to be able to recast the show and get the same EXCELLENT results. The Waltons are so a part of my life, I have been watching them since 1972. I'm happy with the 9 seasons that I own and am looking forward to the movies being released in January.

FYI, Zac Efron has received very good reviews for his starring role in the new movie, "Me and Orson Wells."
