Hi Joe-Zeb, I've heard you mention this history before on another thread and I got to thinking. That subconscious voice that brought you back to your senses, I believe that was your Clarence. Clarence does not need to be a physical person, but can also be thought of as a metaphor for a voice in our head, that gives us a shake, as in "What am I doing here". Similarly we suspend belief to accept that George actually met his guardian angel. That whole part of the story with Clarence could be all in George's mind. Same idea as when Dorothy visited Oz, though seeming very real, turned out being just her subconscious in the form of a dream. So perhaps I've given you a better feeling about "It's A Wonderful Life", that you may not be here to share your life experiences & wisdom with all of us, had it not been for your Clarence. Let me explain something, many years ago I read a degree in Communication Studies. As one of my third year options I chose Language and Thought. One of my lectures was devoted to heuristics and biases. It was here that I learned once a concept enters the mind it can become resistant to modification. I wrote an essay on this, the topic of which was, why do people shun those with AIDS. There was at the time of the outbreak, a lot of misunderstanding that you could catch aids in the same way you caught a cold. As you know you can only catch it through the transfer bodily fluids. In my essay I wrote about the late Princess Diana and how she shook hands with those who had the disease to show she had no fear of physical contact. In the 1980s there was the salmonella scare as soon as I became aware of it I stopped eating eggs and I haven't eaten one since, despite them being declared safe to eat. In the same lecture our tutor mentioned how he had eaten an omelet and as a result he had food poisoning, he too hasn't eaten an egg since. I can see where you're coming from regarding, "What am I doing here" could be seen as a metaphor for Clarence, I very much doubt it. I don't want to pontificate my views on religion as I want to keep my own counsel on the subject. With respect, nothing you or anyone else will change my views about that film.

I think it could be quite harmful to expect any part of life to follow closely what we may see in a movie. It's supposed to be entertainment, not education.

Dear cousin Zadok I had similar thoughts on this too (the voice in your head), however I could never have expressed it as eloquently as you have done, that is so beautiful! I do hope JoeZeb may be able to take these words of wisdom to his heart. With respect to you my friend😊🌸
