I didn't find a thread exclusively about Ellen so I thought I'd start one. Without getting into a lengthy biographical dissertation, let me start with a just a couple of photos. The first is a young Ellen, I don't have a date. Perhaps another of our forum family knows when and where this was taken. And here she is in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) playing Mrs Davis at the teller window, who only asked for $17.50 to George Bailey when there was a run on the bank. (I will replace with a larger image when I find one later). You never know who you may find in these classic films.

As I said in another post, "It's A Wonderul Life" is at the top of my list of least favorite films. That's a shame -- I wonder if it became a "least favorite" after seeing it just too many times ??!! I find that I sometimes get sick and tired of movies I've "over-watched" and must take a lengthy hiatus -- this one in particular eventually made it back to most-favorite status and I can once-again enjoy it occasionally.....

No JeriJet that is not the case. The main reason why I do not like IWL is things in real life do not work out the way they do in that movie. At one point George Bailey looses the will to live and goes to a bridge with a view to ending his life. Just as he's about jump off the bridge out of nowhere a man plunges into the water. George jumps in and saves him, later in the warmth of a shed or whatever it is George learns that this man is called Clarence and that he is his guardian angel. He tells Clarence what led him want to end his life. He tells him that things would have been better if he'd never been born. Clarence then shows him how things would have been if that had been the case. In the end things workout and everyone lives happily ever after. A few years back I found myself in a similar position to George Bailey, but under different circumstances, all I'll say is it was health related. The main difference in my case was, there was no guardian angel around like there was for George Bailey when I was driving to my high place. In my case it was coming to my senses, I said to myself what am I doing here on my way to end it all. I turned the car around and headed back home. Later I went to my doctor and sort professional help and was referred to the community mental health team. How many people have jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge or any high place because life has become too much for them to want to live, where were their guardian angels? I'm sorry for telling you all this.

Hi Joe Zeb. I am very sorry to hear this. You seem like a decent fellow and I was one of the forum that bought up the subject of Ellen Corby being in said film. I myself have been close to the proverbial edge myself way back when. Anyway, we are still both here my friend

That subconscious voice that brought you back to your senses, I believe that was your Clarence. Clarence does not need to be a physical person, but can also be thought of as a metaphor for a voice in our head, that gives us a shake, as in "What am I doing here". Similarly we suspend belief to accept that George actually met his guardian angel. That whole part of the story with Clarence could be all in George's mind. Same idea as when Dorothy visited Oz, though seeming very real, turned out being just her subconscious in the form of a dream. So perhaps I've given you a better feeling about It's A Wonderful Life, that you may not be here to share your life experiences & wisdom with all of us, had it not been for your Clarence.

Hi Zadok. I can agree with the post you sent to Joe Zeb. A lot of cases such of these have been purely psychological and we have our own individual interpretation of such events. However, I would like to add to that. I am not a spiritual person but something my mom told me many years ago spooked me a little. She had payed a visit to a medium. I don't know why she went. I am the second oldest of 4 siblings. The medium told my mother that she had 3 children. My mother corrected her and told her she had 4. The medium still insisted she had 3. Mother then said to her that she should know how many children she has. The medium then asked mother if all 4 were still alive. Mother said yes. Here is the weird part. The medium then asked if any one of her children had ever died. Strange question to ask my mother thought but she was honest with the medium and that her second eldest had died for a short period of time but was in a coma for quite some time but he is still alive and well and concious. The medium then told mt mother that was why she could only sense 3 children because when you die tour guardian angel leaves you and that mediums don't get their information from the person they are talking to or relatives of the person they are talking to but from the guardian angels of those people and she couldn't sense me because when I died my guardian angel had left. As as I have already said, I am not a spiritual person but when mother told me this it really did spook me. I hope that if Joe Zeb reads this it doesn't offend or upset him in any way but that was what happened
