Yes he did serve as Lincoln's secretary of state.
Now this is really funny and you might even think I'm making it up, but trust me...I'm not. My dad's dad, Eli Morgan was a rascal. When dad was just a baby, Grandpa Eli went to town for cigarettes and never went home again. Grandma ended up divorcing him and he went on to marry two more times. In the meantime, Grandma Morgan married Welton Baker, so I had a Grandpa Baker as well as a Grandpa Morgan...and on my mom's side, a Grandpa Wisler.

That is interesting too. I've got a second cousin on Mom's side that has traced the Bakers way back. I plan to go see her before long and see what she has found out. We were just talking about it a month or two ago. Never know, there might be a connection there too.

I just sent an email to Earl Hamner, asking him if that episode with the mention of General Morgan was true or not. I hope he gets back to me on it. Will update if and when I hear back.

At the introduction to one of the Reunion Movie episodes Elizabeth is shown holding Calico as she did when she met Olivia Hill early on the episode of THE LOSS(Initially shown November 13,1975)

It's my first time posting a message...although I've been viewing this site for years whilst I've collected the DVD's and really enjoyed reading all the postings.
Now that I've just completed my collection with the Movies, I thought it apt to declare how much I've enjoyed the series. I think the series maintained a good standard throughout.....the only time I think it went a little downhill was in series 7 when Michael Learned initially left but I think the introduction of Rose thereafter went some way to reinstating that much needed maternal role within the show.
I'm not quite old enough to remember the original series but do remember the repeats they used to show on Sunday mornings on Channel 4 in the UK where I live.
I'd never seen the reunion movies other than the Mothers Day one so it was a real joy to view the 90's reunions - particuly 1993's Thanksgiving Reunion where the core cast was reunited and many of the supporting cast were included (Rose, Yancy, Cindy etc.). Overall, given the time that had passed since the series had ended, these movies maintained a good standard and it was great to catch up with how everyone's story had moved on.....despite the obvious flaws in terms of timeline and missing children!
Anyway, sorry to ramble but thought it was high time I post a comment rather than just read everyone elses and to express my joy at having spent so many pleasurable hours working my way through the Waltons life story.

Hi and welcome Gwhaines1! Isn't it amazing that a television show that 1st aired nearly 4 decades ago has this kind of following? There has never been and probably never will be a show that can measure up to The Waltons. I am a florist and had this last wednesday off after working 14 days straight. The week leading up to Valentine's Day I worked 70 hours, so on my day off I spent it relaxing and piddleing around the house AND I watched the last 5 reunion movies! Other than doing alittle laundry all I did was watch those wonderful actors bring those beloved characters to life. It was a fantastic, relaxing day!

Welcome,GWhaines1. I grew up watching the show(I was 8 when it debuted in 1972) and rediscovered this timeless treasure in 1995 and have been a fan since. Money is a little tight with me right now but I will buy the series and the reunion movies on DVD.

Welcome GWhaines1, I began watching in 1972 and watched regularly throughout the series. I missed the second reunion movie when it was initially shown but was able to see it later. The most ludicrous goof occurred at the end of John boy's wedding when they played"Bicycle Built for Two' which of course begins with Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer true----did they not know that Johnboy almost married Daisy Garner???

Welcome gwhaines1 and I look forward to your future input here! I used to watch the Waltons when it first came out on television, and then it was off the air for many years I believe. Thank God for Hallmark! When it comes to dealing with stress, some people do drugs, some drink, some beat their wives and some kick the dog.....for my stress, I watch the Walton's.
