I knew that Ron and Clint had a father who was an actor but don't remember him.... so I looked him up in imbd and saw the very long list of appearances -- WOW -- and still nothing rang a bell.... then looked at older images.... other than Brenda's photo of his appearances on The Waltons, I still don't really remember him.
What's wrong with me ??!!
RIP, Mr. Howard, and my very best to his loving family.

RIP, Mr. Howard, and my very best to his loving family. I don't remember him offhand either, so will have to fast forward through some of those episodes to see who he is. Is the Birthday the episode where Grandpa has the heart attack? I remember that doctor well.... telling Grandma that Zeb can't have milk, etc.. Interesting!

The Motion Picture Academy Awards show broadcast Sunday night was criticized for certain omissions in their annual "In Memorium" segment: Dorothy Malone, Adam West, Glen Campbell, Della Reese, Powers Boothe and Robert Guillaume and many others.
Rance Howard, however, did make the cut. Here's the list from ew.com:
John G. Avildsen Toni-Ann Walker June Foray Walter Lassally Chuck Berry Robert Osborne Jill Messick Harry Dean Stanton Terence Marsh Rita Riggs Mary Goldberg Anthony Harvey Thérèse DePrez Debra Chasnoff Jóhann Jóhannsson Jonathan Demme Michael Ballhaus Les Lazarowitz Idrissa Oeudraogo Joe Hyams John Heard Martin Landau Glenne Headly Eric Zumbrunnen Roger Moore Sam Shepard Allison Shearmur John Mollo Jeanne Moreau Loren James George A. Romero Rance Howard Sridevi Haruo Nakajima Martin Ransohoff Hiep Thi Le Ron Berkeley Joseph Bologna Fred J. Koenekamp Murray Lerner Don Rickles Seijun Suzuki Bernie Casey Shashi Kapoor Tom Sanders Danielle Darrieux Jerry Greenberg Brad Grey Miriam Colon Luis Bacalov Jerry Lewis
Howard appears about 30th on the list.

I've seen him have small parts in movies that son Ron Howard directed.

Every year they have to leave certain people out due to time constraints, but there are glaring omissions such as Earl Hamner in the Emmy Awards memoriam the year he passed!

Yes, they had people on there that were not even TV people (Prince and others, can't remember everyone at present). Inexcusable due to Earl's work on "Twilight Zone," the infamous "Heidi" football fiasco, "The Waltons," "Falcon Crest," and many other shows!
