Does anyone have any knowledge of the Walton's storyline as to what happened to Rose's grand kids? Was there a reason mention about why they left? Did they just get written out between seasons with no explanation? To my limited knowledge, they sort of just disappeared for the last season.

The story line had them leave due to their Father re marrying and they went back to live with them. I can't remember which episode that it was stated in but I remember it was a conversation between Rose and Verde while they were out walking. Verde had asked Rose how was Serena and Geoffrey doing? 🌸

I think it was "The Outrage," season 9, episode 1.

I think it was "The Outrage," season 9, episode 1. I think it was an outrage they were written out of the cast. As time went on their characters began to grow on you. I remember the scene in one episode where Serena is kneeling by her bedside praying for something, I think it was for grandma to get well. It showed Elizabeth that she wasn't all that bad a girl. Then there's Jeffrey so full of mischief who is bright as button and as sharp sixpence or a nickel. I loved the expression on his face when he's about to take a bite out of Jim-Bobs sandwich in The Valediction, only to be told it had been in his desk for sometime. This leads me to this. Wasn't it Jim-Bob who discovered the welts on Jeffrey's back, which were the cause of his father beating him. It beggars belief how anyone in their right mind would let any child go back to someone who would do that to their offspring. I think the producers used this as a means of writing Serena and Jeffery out of the series. It would have been so wonderful see Rose marry Stanley Perkins and for him to have become their adoptive father. What wonderful stories could have come from that marriage. Perhaps a spin-off series. As for Martha Nix and Keith Mitchell thank you for making your characters so believable.

I agree with you @josephzebulon . I’ve always thought it was unrealistic to believe that Rose would send the children back to their abusive father. If they wanted to write them out of the series, they should have made up a different storyline. Martha Nix, the actress who played Serena, now runs an organization called A Quarter Blue which focuses on child sexual abuse.

Rose mentioned the new wife got her son to stop drinking and he was now “a changed man” or something like that.
And I’m not saying it’s right, but the father probably would have been able to get the kids back during that era.

Martha selected the name A Quarter Blue because at least 25% of children are affected by sexual abuse in some way. That is a sobering thought. She writes more about this in her book, which I recently reread.
