Today I found out about a series of books that follow a girl on her journey to becoming a nurse. They were published in the 40's. Does anybody know if the series was mentioned in the Waltons? I know that Mary Ellen would have already been a nurse, but..... Here is the link. www.netwrx1.com/CherryAmes/index.html

I do not know about this series AND I am probably sticking my neck out but if it was written in the 1940s Cherry Ames could have been the mother of Willie Ames of Eight is Enough!!! ?

Hi Carol,
I remember that fictional book series from when I was a kid in the 50's-60's. I do not believe however, that it was ever mentioned on The Waltons. I only remember Mary Ellen reading about Florence Nightingale.

In the story of Florence Nightingale there is an error regarding the origin of her name. Florence Nightingale was named for her birthplace Florence, Italy. The book however says that she was born in England!
