Was Earl Hamner's Uncle died in the World War 1? Did he ever had Uncle from his dad side? Earl Hamner Jr had five uncles on his paternal side: Lawrence Clifton (1892-1959) Lewis Tyler (1895-1972) William Benjamin (1897-1965) Charles Edward (1902-1962) Clay Randolph (1906-1957) None died in either WW1 or WW2. He did though have a great- uncle, Manoah Somers Hamner (1845-1863), who died at Gettysburg at the age of 18.

Ben and Clay were names used in The Walton's and Spencer's Mountain. Do you know anything about his mother's side?
