One of my favorite things about the Waltons was when the past bumped into the future. The episodes with Martha Corrin, Cousin Zadok, etc I always liked the best. Even though the past had its share of troubles, they seemed to be laid aside as the people thought of what was really important in life and dwelled on those things. The future seemed disjointed, scattered, where people where letting go of what was important or so it seemed, maybe it was just a different way of expressing it. It was good at times to go back and see the people who laid the foundation of what and how the current Waltons acted.

The Waltons also had epsodes of the present meeting the future. Set in the 1930s and early 40s the program addressed significant issues of social and economic justice and equality that were hot button topics in the 70s which, unforunately, linger today. The program met head-on not only the issues of racism, religious prejudice, stereotyping, and other types of bigotry, but also issues of health care, childcare, and educaton.
