I have watched all of my Waltons media from begining (Spencer's Mountian) through the end (Mother's Day on Walton's Mountain) twice this year and it is only May. I need to move on and do something else with my evening time. I am trying to watch more modern shows (CSI) and stuff on tv, but I keep thinking that the Walton's is better then this.
Help. What do I do to move back into the year 2009?

I generally watch either the Hallmark movie at night or if I don't care for that, I check out Lifetime or Lifetime Movie Network, then TV Land, Home and Garden TV and if all that fails, I get on the internet and play on different forums until bedtime. It's hard to find decent programming.
Sometimes I pull out my old Disney Movies or Hallmark Movies and other programs I have recorded in past years like the original Parent Trap with Hayley Mills, Pollyanna with Hayley Mills, The Trouble with Angels with Hayley Mills, The original Miracle On 34th Street, Homecoming with Anne Bancroft & Kimberlee Peterson, Ice Castles, Ice Princess, Anne of Green Gables with Colleen Dewhurst, Anne of Avonlea, Jump In, Brink, Jumping Ship, The Other Me, The 13th Year, etc, etc.........
I do watch Ghost Hunters on Wed. night and Ghost Hunters International on Sci Fi channel.

Other old items that I like--- Family Affair Leave it to Beaver Brady Bunch When Every Day was the Fourth of July(movie) Back Home(movie--the Disney one is better than the British one on DVD)

What do I do to move back into the year 2009? I know how you feel, Carol. There are a lot of good TV shows on DVD from the "old days." If you grew up during that period and you can afford to buy them for your family, it's well worth the investment if you like quality TV shows. I watch very few "modern" shows. My channel is the best on television! I still watch The Waltons, LHOTP, Andy Griffith, Gilligan and all the rest. And I don't feel bad about not bringing the garbage that makes up most of modern TV broadcasting into our home. It's a respite from this world to watch the shows we watch at our house.

Reality TV? They can have it. Just give me my old standbys in the form of old radio shows, TV reruns, and old movies. I watch very few shows from the 1980s and 1990s and very few if any from the 2000s. "Seinfeld" and "Frasier" are probably the only shows made the past 20 years I have any interest in.

Here is the rub with watching the older show all of the time; life imitates art (or so they say) and I actually go through a culture shock when I watch the older shows with people who have manners and morales similar to mine and then read the news or go to the store and wham a big dose of reality.

I see this is an OLD thread....but am going to add my 2 cents anyway. Keep watching the Waltons. If it makes you feel good and isn't illegal, immoral or fattening, then just do it! I watch them every day. I don't want to even begin to watch anything else. They give me peace of mind, which I need in this stressful world. They're my valium without the side effects and addiction! Just keep watching the Waltons Carol!

I have to disagree. The episodes are addictive.

I don't watch any modern shows. I watch DVD's like "The Dukes of Hazzard", "The Waltons", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Sanford and Son", "Gomer Pyle USMC", "The Brady Bunch", "The Munsters", and MANY, MANY, MORE. Does anyone else like "The Dukes of Hazzard"?

Peggy Rea was on both "The Waltons" and "The Dukes of Hazzard". I think her DOH character married Boss Hogg if I'm not mistaken or was at least engaged to him.
I have seen some of the DOH but never really got into the show.
