Why is it that I'm still sad that the Waltons are done. I'm sad that they all grew up and the perfect life I loved to watch is no more. I watch one show every night in bed with my little portable DVD player and headphones. It's the only way I can relax enough to go to sleep and it doesn't keep hubby awake. What I wouldn't give to have been a part of a family like that. Maybe because my family was so dysfunctional, that I'm caught up in a fantasy world with the Waltons. Yes it's over, but I still am grieving. Good lands...am I nuts or what?? I know I need to snap back to reality and grow up a little.

I think that the show fills a void in many people and now that all of the seasons are available, there isnt anything to look forward too (unless they release the six TV movies).

Carol, I think you hit it on the head there. No more releases to look forward to. Kind of like a death in the family. Sigh....

I guess if you are crazy ssmarilyn I am too. I wish my family had been that good too because mine was pretty disfunctional too. Although there were some good times and the show reminds me of them and it also makes me think of how it must have been when my Dad was young. They were very poor.

Ok both of you guys, you are not crazy.
I rec'd an emailed from Gory Lacey (tvshowsondvd.com) couple days ago stated that we should hear the announcement within couple months for tv movies reunion.

If you are crazy then you have lots of company!! ;D ;D ;D
I didn't get to watch them on Hallmark much because I worked during the day. So that didn't bother me as much, accept the fact that there is very little "good TV" on any channel. We need shows like that.
I have my Season 9. But I decided to wait to watch it and I have started over with Season 1 and plan to run all the way through. (Of course, I have competition with another member of my household who must watch Daniel Boone every night. I like Dan'l too, but I'm on a Walton kick now that Season 9 is here)

Lorijean, enjoy your walton kick. Mine is coming to a close with the viewing of season 9. I started with Spencers Mountain then the Homecoming and finaly started watching from the first season. I am half way done with season 9. It has taken me almost three weeks to acomplish all of this. I plan on watching the six tv movies as well and then I am packing all of my waltons stuff an putting it away for at least a year. I am trying to kick the Walton habit and going cold turkey.

Naw, there ain't nuthin' wrong with ya that a bit of the recipe wouldn't cure...
My family was pretty dysfunctional, too. On the other hand, I never realized it until I got older, and started comparing myself with other people's families. Still, I'm happy with what I 've got - I'm partway through my copy of season 6, and am very glad I'm not stuck with Curt as a relative - back when I watched the show in the 70s, I don't remember his character being as irritating as he is now. Is there anywhere in the subsequent seasons where he shows any empathy towards anybody?

Nothing wrong with you Marilyn.... I feel the same way. I love the Waltons and watch them daily. I am sad that they are no longer on. I was even "sad" when some of the original cast started falling away- first grandpa, because we sadly lost him, then "John-Boy", then grandma when she had her stroke, but she did come back occasionally, then Olivia and lastly John. I just watched the episode tonight where Ralph made his last appearance on the series. Everytime one would go away, it would make me sad. Sounds crazy I guess. I hope someday to meet some of the cast members and Earl and some of his family. I am not that far from the "Hamner" home... about 350 miles southwest of there.

Nothing wrong with you for loving TV that can actually rub off some wholesome values on you. Hard work, loving family, proud country: Nothing to be ashamed of.

Thank you for all the great replies! I'm on my 3rd time watching the Walton's starting with season 1. I watch them at night....bedtime.....with my little dvd player and headphones so that I don't wake up hubby. I live with alot of stress and the Waltons are my mental & emotional escape and they actually help me relax enough to go to sleep. I haven't purchased season 9 yet because I'm afraid to watch John leave. What a wuss I am, but I'll hold out until I get through the series one more time. I have to add that I have learned some parenting ways from John that have made a world of difference in how I interact with a youngster.

Don't be afraid to watch s.9. Though John leaves, Rose comes out as the star of the show. "The Gold Watch" and "The Heartache" are especially good episodes with her and ... you'll find out. I really love the later seasons for being different, and yes, having all the other family members leave the show. When the first John Boy left, Grandpa died, Olivia left, and also Grandma, John too, the other members of the family had a chance to stand on their own as characters and as actors.

I finished Season 5 last night, and I still wonder why something that happened 32 years ago on a television show would have any affect on me now, but you know, I was really sad knowing Richard Thomas was leaving the show at the end of the season. The final scene with him looking back at the house to say "goodnight" was very moving. I have the entire set of dvd's so I started Season 6 today, and the show does seem different. I am looking forward to the final few seasons, because when the show was on, I remember not being able to see every single episode when it aired. It truly was a great show, and I hope the cast and Mr. Hamner appreciate the impact they have had on all of us.

"The Seashore" and "The First Casualty" are very good. Enjoy them.

At least John Boy kept popping up every here and there. When they replaced him with that other actor, I really missed him!
