He has appeared on numerous shows including "The Waltons" of course, along with "Leave It To Beaver", "The Andy Griffith Show", "Bonanza", "The Many Loves Of Dobie Gillis", "The Patty Duke Show"(on which he played Patty Duke's father), "Bewitched", "Star Trek", "Murphy Brown",and many more. The first time I saw him was in Dobie Gillis in 1960 or 1961---11 or 12 years before the coming of the Waltons. I also remember his appearances as Patty Duke's father. I missed the early episodes of Leave it to Beaver---it was in the fall of 1957 when he appeared as Mr Bloomgarden where Beaver had to wear short pants---which Germans would have called 'minnerhosen'--- to school and everybody made fun of him.

How long have you been a Walton's Fan? Rose was an important character on the Walton's as well and played the cousin to Olivia. Peggy Rea played Rose and made the screen shine. She kept the family together in John and Olivia's absence. When you move into Season 9 you will see Rose a great deal. Hope this helps. If you need any more assistance I call Tracey 'Our Walton's Dictionary'. Don't be afraid to ask, that is why we are all here, to celebrate the Walton's TV show. The family on the forum enjoys being positive and supportive of the cast. Each cast member added their own, as grandpa would say, seasoning to the show. "Every good recipe needs a little salt to enhance the flavor". It wouldn't have been the Walton's without any one of them being who they are, Judy Norton and David Harper included. I would not have changed a thing. Except, as Tom Bower and I recently discussed, the quick re-appearance of Curt Willard. By the way,Tom Bower played MaryEllen's husband on the Walton's. William Schallert and Peggy Rea seemed to have an energy between them. They were such a cute couple and seemed to belong together. I was happy when they finally got married toward the end of the show. Tracey, was that season 8 or season 9, I can't remember? Good night from the Bahamas! Dianne Grant

I have been a Waltons fan from the first time round - watched it with my late mother and my own children. Now I am watcing it agin with hubby and young granddaughter - when she visits, as it is usually suitable for family viewing - she loves it too;) I had a look thro the waltons on google and did see a photo of stoutish woman (with a thin man) and I think that could be Rose, I faintly remember them, and if it is, well I certainly loved both their characters, so am looking forward to season 9. You are making me envious saying you are in the Bahamas. p.s. yes, I watch Desperate Housewives too - never miss it!

I cant see whre to start a new thread so am putting my question here..perhaps Tracey answer this..
I read that the real Hammer family had eight children not seven, so why no mention of the eighth child -in the series I mean
also re the staries were some eisodes 'made up' like in fiction. And if so, is it only the ones stating 'written by Earl hammer' that really did happen

Yes there was another boy named Paul who was never mentioned. He was combined to create Ben.
