After watching "A Decade of the Waltons", I am assuming that episode was filmed after season8(?). Did the cast view season 8 as the last season?It seems like that special episode was a way for the show to say goodbye and they they did another season 9. I am just curious about the timeline in the whole thing. I find that special to be a little bit fake/corny. The interview times with the child actors seemed scripted and I was a little dissapointed that Ralph Waite and Michael Learned were not in that segment.

Watch the eyes of some of the Hamner family - you can see they are reading off prompt boards or something. British TV did a retrospective a few years ago and I think it was better.

Yes, the series was actually cancelled after season 8. CBS received enough protests that they rescinded the cancellation.
