Have you ever been watching a different program, and heard a reference made to The Waltons? Maybe a "good night, John Boy"? Or the theme music? Or just a general comment?

In the movie based on the series Lost in Space, there is a scene where you see the outside of the Robinson's space ship where it has crashed on the planet. You hear, goodnight dad, goodnight mom, goodnight Judy, Penny, Will. Then you hear Major West saying something like "You've got to be kidding". Then there is the Geico commercial which shows the outside of the Waltons house. And you hear the goodnights. On the Carol Burnett show, they have the Walnuts skit where she played JohnGirl. On the show Bones they are investigating where the remains of an elderly man were found caught on a tree branch by his suspenders or overall straps somewhere in rural WV. He was found by a man who had his pig with him hunting for truffles. Anyway, Booth says "What happened to Grandpa Walton here"? Which I thought was a little funny considering Ralph Waite played Booth's grandpa, Hank (Pops) Booth.

I can remember there were a couple of Eight is Enough episodes where the TV was on and you could hear "The Waltons" theme in the background. Both shows were produced by Lee Rich/Lorimar studios, so I guess it was their way of using one of their shows to sort of advertise another of their shows. I haven't watched Eight is Enough for years, so I can't remember which episodes they were.

At the end of one "Three's company" episode, Jack (John Ritter) says "Goodnight John Boy". I know it was in one of the earlier seasons. I do not recall the exact episode.

Funny, considering John Ritter played Reverend Matthew Fordwick! Offhand, don't remember any shows other than those mentioned, but it is mentioned in a book, The Shining, by Stephen King. In that, they were watching The Waltons but it doesn't appear in either movie version.

Oddly, there was one in the recent popular crime drama Breaking Bad. In an episode near the end, a character is saying that they need to do something to avoid being killed saying "otherwise it's goodnight John-Boy for us!"

There's a rather crude one on an episode of Family Guy, all the family says their goodnights and John-Boy doesn't reply. He replies to them in a rather rude way so I'm not going to repeat what was said.

Funny, considering John Ritter played Reverend Matthew Fordwick! Exactly, it made it special. On a later Three's Company episode, Jack (John Ritter) wanted to impress his grandpa and told him he was a doctor. As he carried through with the charade, he asked Janet (Joyce Dewitt) to be one of his patients. Her role was to be Mrs. Fordham, but John Ritter said "Mrs Fordwick" instead..(something like that) Of course his character on the Waltons was Rev Fordwick. This is neither here no there but I always wanted Jack and Janet to marry on Three's company. They had good chemistry.

Anybody remember that episode of "Eight is enough" that guest-starred Will Geer? It was a Christmas episode and he broke into the Bradford's house on Christmas Eve and stole all their presents. Nicholas saw this and thought he(Will) was Santa Claus and wondered why he would take their presents. I saw where Will was nominated for a best guest star Emmy for that episode. It was probably the best episode of the series. I haven't seen it forever. That show isn't on youtube. I think that is how the episode goes.I would love to see that again.(hint hint)

Yeah, I saw that! Nicholas drew pictures as gifts so there would be at least something to give on Christmas.
