What is the final say as to Maryellen. How many kids did she have? What happened to her oldest, John Curtis? What her husband, Curt, killed at Pearl Harbor or not? Did she marry another guy, Jonesey? if so, what happned to him? If the last movie, wasn't she referred to as a war widow?
Very confusing!

Mary Ellen had three kids. John Curtis with Curt and Clay and Katie with Jonesy. How they came about when in Mother's Day on Waltons Mountain Mary Ellen was told she couldn't get pregnant anymore and because she was a divorcee she couldn't adopt is anyone guess.
Curt survived Pearl Harbor as we found out in The Tempest and The Whirlwind but Curt let her go because his injuries left him unable to be intimate with her
Mary Ellen married Jonesy. In A Walton Thanksgiging Reunion 1993 it was mentioned Jonesy was in Vietnam.
There is no mention of where John Curtis was in the last three reunion movies or any hint that he even existed.

Your post of the "Chuck Cunningham" syndrome made me think of Jaimee Foxworth who played Judy Winslow on Family Matters. Her character just disappeared too.
Family Matters premiered in 1989. Carl & Harriette Winslow had three kids - Eddie, Laura & Judy. At the end of 1993 Judy goes upstairs & is never seen or referenced again, as if she never existed, aka "Chuck Cunningham" syndrome. The show went on for 5 more years, ending in 1998. I was watching the show when she just disappeared. I always thought it was hilarious that they wrote her out of the series by having her just go upstairs. Family Matters most popular character was Steve Urkel, that might help you remember the show better.

My favorite years of the show were the couple of years when Curt and Maryellen were together, met, married, worked as doctor and nurse together, had John Curtis. They were a great couple. Stupid to have killed her off.

An alarmingly common syndrome! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Donmega60645/Chuck_Cunningham_SyndromeAnd The Waltons are not even mentioned despite being repeat offenders! Someone needs to correct this list! P. S. I just entered two examples from Daniel Boone. No doubt lots of others exist! This would make a cool Twilight Zone episode--you know, all these disappeared characters meet up in some limbo! ( The Brady Bunch's dog, Tiger, deserves honorable mention.) Edit to note: If anyone wants to take on this task for The Waltons, they should probably enter it under movie series/franchises rather than TV series--or enter the series name and make a note, "see movies." I just entered the TV movie Return to Mayberry under movies, as the mistake was in that, in leaving out Andy, Jr. and not in the series, Mayberry R. F. D., in which he appeared.

On the ABC soap ALL MY CHILDREN, Dr. Joe Martin and his first wife had 3 children, Jeff*, Tara and Bobby. I have heard this joke that Bobby went upstairs to wax his skis and was never heard from again. I think this was before Chuck Cunningham. I watched this show for years and Bobby is never mentioned. As far as the show is concerned, Dr. Joe is father only to Jeff and Tara, plus Tad and Joey with his second wife Ruth. *I think Jeff was played at one time by the actor that played Jonesy. I think Judy is dropped from Family Matters because it became more or less The Steve Urkel Show. Edit: I just went and looked at that Wikipedia article about The Chuck Cunningham syndrome, and it does mention Bobby Martin disappearing from All My Children.

Not sure what show, but remember on some soap opera a kid going upstairs to do homework and was never seen or heard of again. This was in the '70s or even the '60s--before Chuck Cunningham.
