I have to admit I have a soft spot for Martha Rose Coverdale. She talked a lot about her mother buying her this or that but she didn't really seem to have a lot of money. Didn't G.W. pay for her candy? And she never did buy that dress Mary Ellen bought instead of the baseball glove. I would have enjoyed seeing what her family life was like. Imagine, for the sake of pure speculation, what would a Waltons episode have been like if filmed from the point of view of an outsider like Martha Rose.
Martha Rose says, " I declare those terrible Waltons just take over the school and Miss Hunter lets them get away with it!"
I recall she had a bike. I remember her platinum dye job. I recall her final appearance when she was married and Mary Ellen and Curt tried to help her when she was choking. I'd like to know more about the character.
She never seemed too interested in any of the other Waltons. She just picked at Mary Ellen.
Just one of those fun things we fans daydream about!

You do wonder about all the extra characters from te show. I had always hoped they would do a spinoff featuring the Godseys ad the store, with all the people interacting we normally did not see.

I think many adolescent girls have a "Martha Rose Coverdale" in their lives. Then you grow up and realize that the Martha Rose in your life was probably very insecure, and only put you down to make herself feel more important. I would have liked to see her family as well. She did have a brother. I think he was in the episode "The Ring" where Mary Ellen went to the Boatwright dance. Martha Rose asked her if she was there with her brother too. Since he was in college, he must have been about John Boy's age, yet we never see him in any of the school scenes. In fact, I don't remember ever seeing any other boys in school about John Boy's age. Maybe most of the boys had to drop out of school to help support their families. That's what my father did.

I like Martha Rose Coverdale. She is annoyingly fun.
In the episode where Olivia teaches school and Mary Ellen says she is thinking of calling Olivia, Mrs. Walton, Martha says, "Oh, how sophisticated, Mary Ellen." or something like that - is one of my favorite lines!

The rest were high school girls. I think, their was like 5 or 6 graduate from Waltons School. Could be wrong. SInce, I haven't seen that episode in long time.

Martha Rose Coverdale was a character you love to hate. I truly believe she just always was putting on an act and each one of us probably had an acquaintance growing up that mirrored Martha Rose…..in know I did.

^ Agreed. Martha Rose was so pretentious. Cora Beth was Martha Rose on steroids.

I realize I’m replying to a post from nearly 10 years ago, but I want to point out that Honeybee is correct. There was another boy in John Boy’s graduating class. His name was Tyler Crofut. Marcia Woolery mentioned him a couple of times to try to make John Boy jealous. She said Tyler Crofut wasn’t going to college. He was going to stay and work on his daddy’s farm. The last name “Crofut” was mentioned in another episode, the one where John Boy got a job collecting the rent for Graham Foster. John Boy fixed the Crofut’s roof for them after Graham Foster refused to so he could collect their rent money.

Martha Rose Coverdale was the character that auditioned for Pocahontas and her parents bought her that authentic looking Indian Costume and the Black Wig and she still lost the part to Mary Ellen?
Maybe Martha Rose did have money, but liked to have G.W. buy her everything at Ike Godsey's especially when Mary Ellen was there just to rub that in her face that G.W. was with her and not Mary Ellen.
Martha Rose was definitely the snob with an attitude.

Martha Rose was like the Nellie Oleson of Walton's Mountain.

Martha Rose was like the Nellie Oleson of Walton's Mountain. Yes, but I don’t think Martha Rose was nearly as mean as Nellie Oleson. One thing they had in common was that they both grew up to be likeable people.
