If the Waltons really had ninety seasons it would still be on now. A friend actually remarked that at the end of Homecoming it mentions it has been forty years since Earl Hamner's childhood, and now it's been nearly forty years since the Homecomming first came on TV. He said there was such a huge difference between the 50's and 60's that forty years before 1971 seemed like a hundred years before 1931 in terms of cultural shifts. Now forty years after 1971 we're still reaping the consequences of '61. If wishes were horses, if you could want anything for our times, or just for the Waltons, what would you wish for? You are free to coment on or criticize my wishes as well.

I wish they had found another way to write Kurt out of season 7 besides killing him off so that they wouldn't have had to write him back in in season 9.

I wish that they had replaced adult actors instead of writing the ones who wanted to leave out

I wish the Waltons story continued on TV taking us to modern times to see how John-Boy is getting on in the current morally toxic culture of ours

When the drafting of the constitution was in dire straits, Benjamin Franklin suggested that the founding fathers pray to God before every session to plead for guidance. God answered those prayers, and the constitution became one of the most important documents in history.

In the 60s, the Supreme Court ruled that praying in schools was unconstitutional. Our country's basis on biblical ideals was removed.

Evolution teaches kids that they are nothing more than animals. Pretty soon, kids started to believe it and acted in accordance. The shooters at columbine were avid believers in evolution. One of the shooters was wearing a shirt that said "Natural Selection." They shot some kids because they were black. They even did the shooting on Hitler's birthday.

Evolution says that we evolved from chimpanzees or some other type of primate. The subtle implication is that blacks, arabs, and jews were less evolved (because they had darker skin). That's why Hitler killed blacks and jews. He believed they were just animals, because of evolution. The idea was to speed along the evolution of the 'perfect race', the imperfects must be killed off. Did you know that Darwin's book "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection" had a subtitle. It was "The Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life." Ol' charlie abandoned his belief in God and thus his belief that all men are, in essense, created equal.

God created all people and that means no one is more 'evolved' than another.
Our morals went out the window when people kicked God, the belief in creation, and the fear of God's judgement, out the window.

About the wishes, I think the show declined after Olivia left. That was the major turning point. The show could have gone on without John-Boy if they didn't write a new actor back in. I would have preferred them to end the show instead of replacing major charachters with other actors.

The show's values would not have been the same if it continued until this day. I mean look at the last few seasons.

I'm fine with Curt dying as long as he in fact stayed dead. Lol, sounds awful.

wetherwacky......I totally agree with you about "America" declining since "GOD" has been taken out of the school system. I started school in the early 1970's. We would start the school day off with a prayer (I went to public school).

In 3rd grade I remember very well that we were saying a prayer & a boy from the 4th grade came into our class room to give my teacher a message from his teacher. He knocked, opened the door & started to tell the message. My teacher immediately made him be quiet. We continued the prayer & then afterwards she got all over him for not paying attention to what was going on & interrupting the prayer.

In 5th grade we read passages from the Bible every morning before doing anything else. I know that everyone has different beliefs & sadly there are some who do not believe in GOD at all. At this time in school if you didn't want to participate you did not have to.

By the time I was playing Varsity girls basketball, we had to huddle up with our coach in the dressing room & quietly say a prayer because it was frowned on by the supreme court by that time. When I was playing basketball, my mom let the coach know that on Wednesdays I would have to leave practice early in order to eat supper & shower before church that night. The coach never had a problem with that nor did any of my teammates. Then when I graduated high school, when it come time for prayer we had to say it was our doing, not the school systems!

Now I have children playing basketball. The coaches don't like that my child/children needing to leave at a certain time on Wednesdays. In October 2008 I became Vice-President of our schools' basketball booster parents club. Just a few minutes later they were talking about doing a "raffle." I let them know at the end of the meeting that if they were going to do the raffle, that they would need to get a new Vice-President because my religion believes that is gambling & if I stayed VP then people would think that I am condoning that. They looked shocked! Just stared at me with their mouths wide open. Finally, they said OK, that's fine.

Also last week one of my daughters who is playing softball came home with instructions from her coach to sell 5 tickets to a chili supper/bingo fund raiser or pay $50.00!! And also that the players would have to work the supper & bingo plus bring a gift for bingo. I went & talked with her coach. I told her that my daughter could work the supper but that as soon as it was over & they were going to do bingo, then she would have to leave plus she would not be bringing a gift for bingo because our religion believes that is gambling. She was fine with it & said that would be no problem. It would be great if more people were like that!

It is truly sad when the "few" want to have it their way & their way only over "the majority." And it's sadder that we "the majority" stand by & let the "few" get their way. Our country used to have respect for elders, other peoples property, etc...It's hard raising kids with morals & values in today's world when it's so hard for them to find/have role models to look up to.

I think another reason why most kids don't respect their elders is because when I introduce my kids to one like.......This is Mrs. Smith. Then Mrs. Smith will immediately say, "Call me Nancy." Sorry people my kids will call you Mr.. Mrs. or Miss along with your last name! Not just your first name or Miss Nancy! They are not on the same level as you! They have to work their way up the ladder in life!
Of course, I don't mean to step on anyone's toes but when you become a grandparent be proud of it, be grateful that you lived long enough to become one. There are so many who want their grandchild/grandchildren to call them by their first name or something else like "Bootsy" or such. It's like they don't want to be called anything that would let people know that they are a grandparent. I will get off my soapbox now.

I was just telling the forum my answer to why 'The Waltons' couldn't survive on prime time TV. We, as a society, have degraded. The timeless values presented in the Waltons just don't appeal to the blood, guts, and sex-enthralled audiances we have here today.

I was explaining how, I believe, society had deteriorated.

I do not think that anything I said went over the line. We may talk about religion as long as we don't get into a shouting match over doctrine. Discussion is crucial. I don't think I'll mind if you post what you believe to be the reason for societal degradation. We can agree on things and disagree about other things. Tame discussion... That's all.

A while back on the old forum we got into an insulting match about salvation by faith vs. works. We all learned some restraint by that. However, I don't think that episode made it mandatory that we refrain from all discussions of morality, and the Judeo-Christian roots of our country. Those roots are our foundation, and that's all I'm saying. If you pull up the roots, you pull up the plant, flower and stem alike.

Though, if Brenda asks us to stop and chooses to set such restrictions, I'll abide by them. My feeling is as long as we keep our tone kind and sensible, there's nothing to worry about.

I agree about respecting your elders on The Waltons. No way would my children or grandchildren call an adult by their first name. Mind you, everyone seems to want to be called by name rather than Mrs/Miss/Mr. I haven't a clue what my new boss' last name is - he's just Devon

It is fine to discuss religion and politics as long as everyone is respectful of others and their beliefs.
