When you think of Mary-Ellens husbands do you think of jonsey as being one of them?
Because I don't when I think of Mary-Ellen I think of G.W as her boy friend and curt as her husband!
I just wondered if anyone else felt this way?

I think of Mary-Ellen mostly as a single mum because Curt took off for the war a few episodes after they married and as far as I recall Jonesy appeared in one ep of the tv series and just one of the later Specials. She spent most her time raising her child herself. I don't consider GW as a serious boyfriend of hers, he sort of went off the radar after The Quilting and when he came back into the mix later on it was as Erin's boyfriend and they seemed to be more serious about each other.

I definitely think of Curt as her husband -- time spent together covered many episodes.... and their relationship was dynamic and memorable.

One of my favorite scenes out of all the weekly episodes was when Curt returned from his court business and dropped by the house with the news on what happened and Mary Ellen says, "Curt Willard, I wouldn't marry you if you were the last man on earth." Then the setting moves to Curt and Mary Ellen's wedding on top of the mountain.

Curt and Mar Ellen were a wonderful couple. I really enjoyed their scenes together. I think it was a big mistake to write him out, as he could have helped carry the show once all the other adults had left.

I don't think they exactly wanted to write him out.... the story is that they didn't want to pay the money he was demanding.... Too bad.

My understanding is he wanted to be paid equal to what the others were making which sounds fair to me if they wanted him to be a regular on the show. Who would take part time pay for full time work?

I think that's right -- I should have spelled it out -- didn't mean to make it sound like he was asking for an exhorbitant fee!!

I always wondered why they didn't bring the David Spencer character back after Curt's death. He was plenty interested in Mary Ellen while she was still married to Curt. She resisted his advances then, but she seemed to seriously consider being unfaithful.
I loved Curt though- his bristly personality brought some pizazz to the group.

I think it was a big mistake to write him out, as he could have helped carry the show once all the other adults had left. Tom Bower (who played Curt), told us at last year's Waltons reunion in California, that he was "killed" off because he wanted more money. Then when they went to do the episode about Curt still being alive...they approached him about doing it. Again, he said he wanted more money to do it & they passed on him & brought in another actor for the episode. Who knows if they had paid the money & he reprised the role, he may have been added back to the show?!?! But I am like the majority of the members here...they should have left Curt a dead HERO. The real Curt would never have abandoned his wife & son even if he had suffered such a devastating war injury.

I don't know if you're among the majority, Kimberly -- there may well be a "silent majority"... I personally believe Curt showed a great amount of selflessness and courage to let Mary Ellen and the family continue to believe in his death... Once they had accepted the finality, he gave ME the opportunity to find another path, another husband, additional children... We only saw him years later, when so much bitterness had set in... It must have been a very difficult decision to make and I don't see the Curt we knew taking the easy way out -- he may well have taken the hardest, which is the way he had always led his life.

That's what I like about this board...I always had the same opinion about Curt's revival as Forever Waltons and now I read Jerijet's response and now I see another viewpoint. I would have never thought about it the way Jerijet did. Maybe I could have tolerated it better if it had been the same actor and they did not make Curt so unlikeable in that episode.

I agree -- if Tom Bower had come back to play the "resurrected" Curt, the disastrous circumstances and decisions made by the character may have been received better. For all of these reasons, the episode(s) didn't affect me the way they did so many.... i.e., they did not become my least favorite!!!

That last seasons story writing was all over the board and desperate for drama. Having Curt abandon Mary Ellen made no sense..apparent the people who wrote that script had not seen the previous years. I am still shocked Earl Hamner allowed it.
