What does everyone think... Do you think they should have tried to continue the series without Olivia? Since this was a family of the 1930's and divorce was not an option for a dedicated mother like Olivia, writing her out of the story by having her get sick leaves an unresolved plot thread that would eventually have to be resolved. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that she came back for a few episodes of the eighth season, but even then, she disappeared without explaination

The Waltons is always the Waltons. No matter how corny/sappy it gets, it's always, (I repeat) ALWAYS better than the blood, guts, guns, and sex that's on TV now.

Michael Learned left to make the TV move, "The Nurse," which eventually became the series that she headlined of the same name.
Ralph Waite left halfway through the final season (season 9), if I remember correctly.
