For whatever the reasons, which of the Waltons characters mean something to you ? For me : John Boy because of his writing Jason because of his love for music Grandpa/Grandma Walton: reminds me of my grandparents Ike/Corabeth/Baldwins: Their sense of humour/charm Yancy/Verdie : these two are characters that I'd like to have as my own neighbours/friends-just because factor There are others but these stand out and a special one out to Earl Hamner, because he is a writer and a man worth admiring and to learn from .

I don't think anyone of the characters can beat Grandpa for his whit and humor. If you ever get a chance to meet Mary McDonough, you would love her. She is just like everybody describes her. Very kind and funny. I had the pleasure of meeting her at the reunion in October. Of course, as I have mentioned before, I liked good ole Jim-bob because we have a lot in common. I am the youngest of six kids and love to tinker with old cars, radios, etc. He seemed like a kind hearted kid and not cocky.

jackiladypoet,
What a good idea for a thread!
I have been thinking long and hard on this one and I would have to say Olivia Walton. 'Livy would do anything for the well being of her family and always put them first. She found strength in her love for her family (even when suffering from polio) and always considered them first. Of course they all mean something special to me ... but Olivia Walton has meant a lot more to me as of late ... for obvious reasons.
Second, John for his determination in doing and going where he must to for his family welfare.
Third, John-boy for striving for his dream and not letting anything stand in the way of where he wanted to go. Obstacles, for him, were meant to be pushed aside and look where Earl is today! 'Course, look at his role models (above) ... says a lot about parenting back then hey?

Jason, Music, and partly because he inspired my own Luke Lester Jim Bob, love of life and not caring about the future (than again all kids are like that, why worry about something a long way off - supper is first!!!)

Jim Bob's is my favorite charachter, because I'm so much like him. I'm the age he was in the latter seasons. He was forgetful, with his head in the clouds. I am forgetful, planning my political career. [oh, yeah. Like Jim Bob, I change what I want to do in life, constantly.] I even look like him. i have his nose.
And the simple affection he had for his mother and father, touches me most of all. Very unique to him among his brothers and sisters is his close relationship with his parents. His brother's death accounts for some of that, but not all.
Very unlike Jim Bob, I'm a chatter box. Lol. He was more of a deep one.
