I find it interesting in the Waltons his character was called John Boy. In Spencers Mountain the main boy character was ClayBoy. So was there ever an EarlBoy ? And his real fathers name was Earl Hamner Sr. Just wondered how that Boy thing got started if anyone knows.

Duh if only I read all of the post from wmfan. He states clayboy.
SO what I am strung out on NyQuil and I probably shouldn't be posting while under the influence.

In the biography From Waltons Mountain to Tomorrow it states that "Earl Jr. was never called Earl Boy by his family. His boyhood nickname, mercifully short-lived according to Hamner, was "Sparkplug."

Whoever answered said that he was not called Earl Boy.

Yeah in one of the first Walton's episodes John Boy was called Sprocket by John and never called that again kind of like Sparkplug lol

Yeah in one of the first Walton's episodes John Boy was called Sprocket by John and never called that again kind of like Sparkplug lol It is kind of strange that it's never brought up again. John-Boy asks if he can not be called Sprocket anymore, and I think John agrees. I think they say it was actually Charlie Sneed who thought of the nickname. But, anyway, you'd think that his siblings would have brought it up from time to time to tease him (since he was embarrassed by the name).

Good point AR15. The rest of ther family was kind of young at that point.Maybe Sprocket was a nickname between John Boy and his elders and their friends like Charlie Sneed. Maybe thats why it didnt catch on with the younger kids. WmFan
