I know many of you here will be attending Carolyn's fall event and I sure don't want to take anything away from it, but wondered if there is anyone on the Forum going (or thinking of going) on the Walton's Appreciation Cruise? We had such a wonderful time on the 1999 cruise and (after much discussion) have decided to go. Yes, it IS pricy but we hated to let this opportunity pass us by. So...we decided to swing it and signed up for the cruise a couple of weeks ago. On March 4, Mary McDonough posted on the cruise's Facebook page that she was not going to be able to attend due to work commitments. That was so disappointing, but as another poster pointed out commitments a year away probably don't mean much. The cruise company's Facebook page stated they are working to get other cast commitments, so we'll see.

I hope you enjoy the cruise, Jan. I wish you smooth sailing unlike the last 3 cruise instances as of late in the news. I hope to be in Virginia at Carolyn's Waltons Fan Club Celebration. We will all have to come on here & post our experiences from both reunions......so far you are the only one who has posted that they are going on the cruise so I look forward to your posts about it. Ronnie Claire Edwards (Corabeth) & Michael Learned (Olivia) are going on the cruise. Have you ever met them before?

I too hope to attend the reunion here on VA. I think I read a post from Mary McDonough won't be on the cruise, not positive so you can check to see. I know everyone will have a great time!

We are sailing with Norwegian, so I must say I feel a little bit better about the "smooth sailing" aspect of it all right now! No, I have not met either of these two fine actresses, but am really looking forward to it. I have missed out on all of Carolyn's other events, (other than the '99 cruise) but it looks like you have all been having a wonderful time with various stars in attendance. I am now retired, so do hope to meet up with some fellow Walton's fans at an event soon.

Below is a short You Tube clip by Ronnie Claire Edwards promoting "The Walton's Appreciation Cruise." At the end of the clip, photos of all the cast members attending are shown. Note the last person shown is Tom Bower, "Dr. Curtis Willard." It was announced about a week ago he will be joining the other cast members on the cruise.

Jan, I'm so glad you are going on the cruise -- was hoping a forum member would.... It's such a good deal price-wise, and having the Waltons tie-in makes it absolutely EXCELLENT.... Hope you have a fantastic time and tell us all about it when you get back -- lots of pictures, too

It took me a while before I could bring myself to post this. I know this only affects me on this board, but it is sad, nonetheless. I received a call yesterday from the cruise company coordinating "The Walton's Appreciation Cruise." I was told it has been cancelled. What a sudden shock and major disappointment after all the excitement and planning for so many months. The cruise is still on as scheduled, but there will be no Walton's in attendance. It is still being advertised on Facebook and the Internet, but that isn't correct. My husband and I are trying to make the best of a very disappointing situation and be positive about it, telling ourselves, "Who wouldn't still want a Caribbean cruise?" So, we are still planning to go, but it won't be quite the same. Feeling sad today....

The cruise company should offer refunds to people who already paid since the cruise is not really what it was advertised to be. I'm glad I followed my instincts and didn't make plans to go on the cruise. I had actually considered it for awhile, then changed my mind. I do hope you and your husband have a wonderful time anyway.

Jan...I am so sorry to hear about the change in plans. Did they give a reason for the Waltons part being cancelled? Probably because not enough people signed on for the Waltons part I suppose? I know you were really looking forward to meeting Michael Learned & Ronnie Claire Edwards as well as the rest of the cast that planned to go. I do hope you & your husband still have a wonderful time but I can imagine what a disappointment it has to be that the Waltons part is no longer part of the cruise. I was really looking forward to you letting us all know about the Waltons events that were to take place. Please still let us know about your adventures on this vacation. I have never been on a cruise before but I hope to someday.

Who was the person you spoke with from the Cruise company?? did you get their name? Ray posted on the facebook page that the Cruise is still on and all Walton cast who committed are still scheduled to be there. I know often times their are scammers who get lists of names going on cruises and call to tell them plans changed, and then ask for personal information to verify that the cruise is still on, and you have to watch out for those. I don't think Ray would let people still believe it was going to happen, if things really had changed, as that's just very poor business manners. This is what was posted on July 27th "Hi everyone, thought we'd disappeared? Not a chance. There are just 2 months, 21 days and 17 hours to go, before the long awaited Waltons Appreciation Cruise, departs from NYC, & heads for several beautiful Caribbeans islands, in the company of wonderful original Waltons cast members, such as Ms Michael Learned. So for those of you lucky enough to be traveling on this VIP cruise, please remember that next week is the final week to make full payment.
We again kindly ask that if you are not actually traveling on the cruise, please do not press the 'GOING' button on this page. Enjoy the rest of the weekend & have a great week."RYAN-J

Ryan, yes, I saw all of this on the Facebook page, including Ray's statement that the cruise was not cancelled. I talked to the same person at the cruise company that I have dealt with the past five months. Ray mentions her by name on the Facebook page, and it is her without question. I know her very well by now. No one asked for any personal information. The reason I was given for cancellation is that a certain quota of guests must be met in order to host the Walton cast. I was told more people originally committed to the cruise but ended up not paying for their cruise in full, and final payment is due to Norwegian Cruise Lines on Monday. Since there aren't enough people to meet the quota, I was told the Walton's backed out.

So I guess the Waltons cast members didn't have to pay for the cruise, but I wonder if they were going to get paid to go on the cruise as wel? The mechanics of this seem a little confusing. Sorry about the disappointment Jan, but you'll be sure to have fun anyway.

So I guess the Waltons cast members didn't have to pay for the cruise, but I wonder if they were going to get paid to go on the cruise as wel? The mechanics of this seem a little confusing. Sorry about the disappointment Jan, but you'll be sure to have fun anyway. Thank you, Clyde. You are absolutely right. The cast did not have to pay their way; we all were. All of us were paying a special fee above the cruise cost, for which we will all be reimbursed. The second part of your first sentence states a very valid point. I also started wondering that after I received that "ill fated call" on Friday. There are a lot of unanswered questions in my mind which I know will never be answered. There are also a lot of furious Walton's fans right now, all stuck with with a fully paid and very expensive vacation...air fare AND cruise. None of us ever imagined anything like this would happen. I have my own opinions and thoughts, but something, somewhere went terribly wrong and the rest of us are all left holding the bag. A bunch of non-paying people should not be allowed to bring down an entire, long-planned cruise with only 2-1/2 months left. No, something isn't right there. I have had an excellent relationship with the cruise director, a Walton's fan herself, and she seems genuinely heartsick over this situation. However, no one is talking publicly and it is still splashed all over the Internet like the cruise is still going to occur. That is wrong and it all needs to come off now. My husband and I thought long and hard before committing to this cruise because we had planned to do a special cruise in May 2014 for our 40th anniversary. However, we made the decision to do this instead, as we knew the chance would never come again, and we had such a good time on the '99 Walton's cruise. Well, it turned out to be a bad decision, due to no fault of our own, but because of our love for the Walton's. So, we pick up the pieces and make the best of a bad situation.
