Wouldn't it be fun if Alvira had stayed and lived with the Baldwins? She would have added spice into their lives and Waltons Mtn. Can you imagine Cora Beth meeting Alvira? In a way Cora Beth and Alvira are alike~over the top.

The Actress was probably my least favourite Season 1 episode. Perhaps if Alvira had become a recurring character I might have grown more attached to the character. Slightly off topic, but I thought it was funny that she was supposed to have lost 'everything' but still changed into several fancy dresses

I would rather have seen the actress Lucille Benson with the Baldwin Sisters. She played Tilly Shanks (a waitress) in the 1976 Waltons episode "The Fledgling." She was an awesome character actress. She was in Duel with Dennis Weaver, Halloween II, Silverstreak with Richard Pryor & Gene Wilder and 1941 with John Belushi & Dan Aykroyd, among many other movies & tv shows. I always loved her. You can look her up on www.imdb.comShe was born in Scottsboro Alabama, she died there in 1984 & she is buried there also. The cemetery is about 15 miles from my hometown. I keep trying to make a point to go visit her grave. I really need to do that this year & pay my respects to her.

Pippa Scott Played her , I really didn't care fo that episode that much , she sure got snockered on The recipe though. I loved it when Ester dropped the coffee pot and a wash basin on the floor and Alvira came up off the couch like a flock of bee's bit her. She cracked me up singing to herself because she was sure drunk on The Recipe. That must be some powerfull White Shine.

This is just about the funniest episode. I just loved when everyone is lined up looking at the sleeping and then after the "recipe" Grandpa and John were just great as well as Grandma dropping the pot and pan ! ! !

She was sooooo Snockered*. I about died laughing when everyone stood there and just stared at her. She made Mary-Ellen up to look like one of those Flapper Girl's of years past. Livvy said she just want's her little girl back.

Anyone notice Livvy's line to Jim Bob, he was not at the supper table and Livvy yelled upstairs, " Whacha do, fall in boy?" Not the same character Livvy became in later years. She also said to John Boy, when he came in after his fight, What happened to ya boy?".
Never saw that side of her again.

This is just about the funniest episode. I just loved when everyone is lined up looking at the sleeping and then after the "recipe" Grandpa and John were just great as well as Grandma dropping the pot and pan ! ! ! I watched this last night on my DVR. It was funny when they all walked up next to each other & stood looking at her! Olivia was a little different in this episode, her language & attitude. Someone mentioned how she changed clothes often after losing everything, but she had a trunk with her filled with clothes. Her driver supposedly took off with her jewels & money that she didn't have to start with. I really enjoyed her "stage" performance. Especially when she read John Boys journal. The words brought tears to my eyes. From Walton's Mountain by John Boy Walton At night across the mountain when darkness falls and the winds sweep down out of the hollows, the wild things with their shiney eyes come to the edge of the clearing. At such an hour the house seems safe, and warm an island of light and love in a sea of darkness. At such an hour the word home must have come in to being dreamed up by some creature that never knew a home. In his yearning there must have come to mind the vision of a mother's face, a father's deep voice, the aroma of fresh baked bread, sunshine in a window, the muted sounds of rain on roof, the sigh of death, the cry of a new born babe. And voices calling goodnight. Home, an island, a refuge, a haven of love. Think about the words. Reminds me of family, mine are in Heaven and it sure gets lonesome sometimes. This is why I love The Waltons!

They used slang word's back then , and my kentucky relatives still talk that drawl slang. I catch myself doing it alot myself.
I call my son "Hey Bud " short for My Buddy. That's not his name though.
