Marilyn, I hadn't heard that before, but I have seasonal allergies myself, and I tend to have that quality of voice when the pollen count is high. That's why I mentioned it. I don't think she would have been working if she had a cold all the time.

I think all of the info is in Goodnight John Boy and that she was allergic to the animals on the set.

Was allery medication as good back in the 1970s I wonder. I dont think you got as many over the counter things back then. I was pretty young. I got allergy shots at one time too for several years. waltonsportwriter

Maybe she had adenoid problems. They can get inflamed and make you sound as if your nose is being pinched when you talk.

I agree with Carol. My granddaughter has that problem and sounds like that sometimes.

the 1st 2 seasons-was she sick a lot or was that just her voice? She does sound like she is talking through her nose. I thought something might be wrong with her too.

Animal dander is very bad for people with allergy's. Cat's are bad for peoples allergy's too. I remember when Calico Died having her kitten's. Poor elizabeth was tramatised. It hurt's to lose a beloved pet.

I found this article from 2002. I think it answers the question. What the Waltons did nextElizabeth, played by Kami Cotler Cotler, 37, was six when she was picked to play the freckled, ginger-haired Elizabeth - and annoyed everyone by talking as though she was bunged up with flu. Then it was realised she was allergic to the animals in the show. After The Waltons she trained to become a teacher. Now lives in Virginia with her British-born husband Kim and their two children.
