I am not a prude, but geez...I just saw a Dish Network commercial that made me feel like I had to leave the room (and I'm here alone!) Two good looking guys talking about the size of their "package." After a few seconds you realize they're comparing the packages they get with Dish vs. DirectTv. Really? I need to watch this smut on the COMMERCIALS of all things? ugh!!!!!!!!!!! It's really not a matter of being prudish. It's a matter of being tired of seeing sex infused into EVERY DARN MOVIE, TV SHOW, COMMERCIAL, CONVERSATION, GRAPHIC, SONG, ART, AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON AND ON...
I feel sorry for the people who buy into the nonsense that people who don't want to talk about and think about sex 24/7 are prudes or "hung up" on sex. For these people, the beauty, intimacy, love, responsibility, and wonder of sex is lost. Sex is merely recreation and they are numb to the meaning, and feeling, of it.

..... and the "creative geniuses" who come up with commercials like the two mentioned above undoubtedly think they are being terribly clever -- like it takes high intellect to produce such low, obvious/predictable, obnoxious, and down-right stupid ads !!! Oh JeriJet you have hit upon my thoughts exactly. There are so many commercials that are so stupid and unfunny, never mind blatantly sexual. Here's what I say after I watch almost every commercial on TV:
"Just think. Someone got paid a ton of money to come up with that stupidity."

You guys are right we need to concentrate on holy things written by Holy people like this Bible verse: Ezekiel 23:20 ? New International Version There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses. You completely leave out context. This verse from Ezekiel is a metaphor for how Israel and Judah acquiesced to the false gods of Egypt, becoming like concubines. The notion that the Bible is sexualized to pique interest in it or to boost sales, the way advertisers use sex, is specious.

Bartholomew is right, that verse was taken out of context, but I can't help but think of The Homecoming, when the children were standing outside the store on that cold night quoting Bible verses (with coaching from Mary Ellen), and John Boy pipes up with this one:
Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies. Solomon's Song, chapter 4, verse 5

A verse is a verse is a verse. In a court of law, many times you can only answer yes or no. Is Ezekiel 23:20 a verse? Yes or No
Would there be more or fewer members of religion if Ezekiel 23:20 was on a bumper sticker as much as John 3:16?
Nowhere does Awe imply this "
The notion that the Bible is sexualized to pique interest in it or to boost sales, the way advertisers use sex, is specious."
That was read into.
Carry on Awe...

Yes, by all means, keep taking the Bible out of context and misrepresenting scripture.
I made the point that sex is infused into almost everything these days. Awe's response is not "read into." The meaning of Awe's post, in response to my point, is perfectly clear.
Again, context is important.

Bartholomew, you're probably right here, with the context. But I have to say, like the quote Brenda mentioned, there are parts of the Bible where the sex seems to be 'just there'. Now I'm not expert (I'm only 1/3 of the way through The Bible) and I may be entirely wrong, perhaps there's some meaning behind all of the scenes, but still, to somebody without an advanced understanding of The Bible, I can see how it could be read and considered to have unneeded sex.

Awe -- Bartholomew doesn't yet know you as most of us do..... However, although I usually think I understand your crazy sense of humor and some of your motives, this posting of yours puzzles me.... would appreciate some clarification !!!

I will probably not be back on the Forum until sometime tonight, so I can't follow this thread all day. I may have to move some posts to the Religion Board.

Perhaps we should get back on subject! Again, it never crosses my mind that any Waltons might be having sex during episodes. Jim-Bob in Season 9 is the only exception, and even then, if that happened, it happened ages before

Like your new avatar

AR15 - I totally agree with Scarlett, I really like your new avatar. You are a very nice looking young man. If you had been on The Waltons, you could have given John Boy, Drew, Paul Northridge, Ashley Longworth Jr., etc. a run for their money.
