Once he got The Printing Press, He never talked about it, and they never showed him going to class. Then he went to New York.

In one of the episodes probably season 9 Jim Bob builds a television because John Boy is going to do a show for Boatwright university. When John Boy meets with the Dean I'm pretty sure he calls him one of the universities most prestegous graduates. If my memory serves me right.

I vaguely remember that subject being brought up some time ago and we have never seen him actually graduate. In fact, we didn't see all the kids graduate from high school.

He does go to school in season 5. I think that there were two episodes that he is going to class or getting ready for a class.

I always wondered when John Boy left Botwright and why we didnt see a graduation or finality. Gradutions for seven kids would have been a bit much although when did Elizabeth graduate high school. Oh well left to the imagination. Best wishes wmfan

Although, He didnt really need to go anymore. He was running a newspaper , and he sold a book.
It would be like if you were in music school, and you had got a recording contract. Drop out and finish later if ya want.

If I remember Earl never finished college and as the characterJohn Boy is based on him that may be why John Boy didn't finish college or at least wasn't seen graduating.

I didn't know that Carol, but if that's the case, then JB didn't graduate.

In 1946, Earl Hamner attended Northwestern University. He was a writer for WLW-Cincinnati from 1946 until 1948. After this, in 1949, Hamner went to New York where he was a radio and television writer until 1960. Earl Hamner achieved a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Music in 1958. www.ncteamericancollection.org/litmap/hamner_earl_va.htmAfter graduating from Schuyler High School in 1940, he received a scholarship to the University of Richmond but didn't complete his studies before joining the Army in 1943. After completing his military service during World War II (1939–1945), Hamner returned to Virginia, landing a job with WMBG, a country music radio station in Richmond. He soon left, however, first to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, and then the University of Cincinnati, where he studied radio. Hamner graduated in 1948 and wrote briefly for radio station WLW in Cincinnati before moving to New York in 1949. www.encyclopediavirginia.org/Hamner_Earl_Jr_1923-and somewhere in here www.rodserling.com/EarlHamner.htmBut wait, theres more In June of 1948, Earl Hamner received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in broadcasting from the College of Music of the University of Cincinnati and was promptly hired full-time by WLW, Cincinnati's most powerful radio station, where he had worked part-time while finishing his degree. www.earlhamner.com/about.html

We briefly got to see WLW in Cincinnati in January and February (I think it was one of the channels that covered NFL Football The Cincinnati Bengals(?) amd two Saturdays in succession they had reruns from the Patty Duke Show from 1964 starring William Schallert who became Stanley Perkins on the Waltons. I cammot find the channel now so it must have been dropped after the football season ended with the Super Bowl.

The Patty Duke Show was a great show! I watched it on Nick at Nite as a preteen (back when they actually showed classic TV!)
I still remember the theme song and haven't heard it in probably 20 years...
